HJY IS GIVING AWAY A DIVORCE?

It's on their website. They're giving away divorce representation from Lovett and Lovett for Valentine's Day. Now I don't know what said divorce representation would cost but this being a site populated by radio people I'm sure others do. What I wonder is say you have someone looking to get out of a marriage and staying in it because of the legal expenses. That person wins and theoretically it's the station's contest that spurred the decision to get the divorce. Can the station get dragged into any messy proceedings by the other marriage partner for playing a part in this?

They have some paramaters around it. I saw on the website you have to answer whether or not the decision is mutual. I also heard Paul clarify this morning that you cannot be married with minor children.

Seems like they will screen out the non-mutual decisions, probably grab a young couple with no kids that haven't been together long.

It's still tasteless and depressing, but at least it's creative.

Fact is it's a dumb promotion more in line with HJY's image than anything else but they probably don't have much promotional budget to work with. Why run this so close to Valentine's Day?It should have been kicked off much earlier than the week before. It appeals to only a limited number of people. The chance of winning is probably great. They might have even gotten some press if they promoted it earlier. If word gets around a non HJY listener would probably win it.Sounds like Judge Judy is programming the station.

Correction, it's of your OPINION that this is a dumb promotion, not fact. :)

75% of the posts on here are OPINION.That's a given so there's no need to begin everything with I THINK,MY OPINION,I FEEL ETC.

It's dumb the same way intentionally bad TV talent shows,Judge Judy no-life courtroom freaks, etc are. It's the direction society is going and while I give HJY credit for capitalizing on it it's still the kind of thing those at the station would mock if someone else did it.They did get press last night on channel 10 and got hundreds of contestants but after all is said and done if an HJY listener doesn't win the winner will just go back to listening to the station he/she listens to.If nothing else the station is consistent in image and does know how to project it as opposed to the other poorly programmed CC stations in Providence that are at a loss as to how to bond with listeners.Whoever wins the contest will grin a little more during the divorce proceedings but won't get the difference between being laughed at and laughed with and down deep those at the station will be laughing at them.

Does this mean Coast won't be included as a sponsor in any bridal shows?

What exactly is the difference between, say, giving away breast implants and, in this case, giving away a divorce?

Its not the worst promotion I've ever heard of..and if done correctly, could be pretty funny, if you have the air talent that can pull it off..

Would you want the couple involved to see a therapist first?

The point about the bridal shows is interesting..anybody clear this divorce promotion idea with sales?

You could use this promotion to have an interesting discussion about marriage--if done correctly..

Speaking only for myself--I would do a complete background check first on whoever it might be that I might consider marrying..before you consider swapping account numbers or social security numbers..always a good idea to know who exactly it is you're dealing with..

The funny thing is that there is a station in West Virginia doing the same exact promotion. I saw it on yahoo earlier. But it looks like the West Virginia station is the one getting the Press. I've read nothing in the national News about HJY.

Looks like the announcement of the winner is just "Pat in Warwick". No last name. Male or female? No photos on the website. Unless more updates are coming I had a feeling the winner would want to maintain a low profile.
