HJY Layoff Rumor???

I heard today that HJY is making some room because of budget cuts, and that they got rid of Mike Brangiforte and one half of Quinn and Canterra??? is this true? can anyone give details??

I heard a rumour there was big changes comming around the beginning pf the year.Nothing specific about any one station. It was nt the Quinn and Cantara sega either.

Count on layoffs. Clear Channel is at it again. Just like last year at this time. Merry Christmas?? Ha Ha. Hey, I need to see you in my office and bring your personal stuff is more like it

Even with layoffs the choices don't make sense. Brangiforte is MD. Someone has to do the music or do they pile it on David O'Leary or Tom St John? Also Charles isn't noted for going it alone on the air unless they put him on with a producer who gets open mike time.

As far as Q&C how do you lay off just one? They're a team and always were. They're not something CC threw together like Tadd and Brian who never worked together before and probably never will again. Laying off one member of the team is like inviting the other to quit once they find a gig working together again somewhere else.

But I guess it finally had to hit HJY like it hit all the other stations in that building over the last 3 years. I'm just surprised at the ones getting hit IF this is true. I would have bet more on the midday show being tracked from out of town and fewer members of the P&A show.

I'm willing to bet, laying off one means getting rid of both, which means that its half the work to get rid of both of them. WHo knows though, maybe they'll form the core of a new rock station in the Providence Market. Likely? Probably not, but hey, I can dream.

well, i cant give away who and how i heard this rumor, but it was from someone who works in the building and is very close with one of the 2 people mentioned...as to when it is goin to happen or if it is i dont know. we should take a good listen on monday and see if anything changes to the website.. I tohught it was odd when i heard QnC mentioned.. i thought they were in line to take over PnA..but who knows

Clear Channel does this each December. I don't know if the last month of the calendar year also marks the end of their fiscal year, but it seems like it, if they're slashing to beef up the bottom line at the end of the year.

I'd be very surprised to see CC do anything to Q&C, since it's a reasonably successful syndicated program around New England.

CC puts Q & C on multiple stations here in New England to save money. Now they split them up. Stupid move.
I was listening before Thanksgiving. And the show sounded tracked. I doubt CC will return nights to the locals f/t.

This will be Q & C's opportunity to move to mornings at a station somewhere else in the country who will appreciate them. If HJY screws around with these guys than I think the station deserves to lose them both for good. They've got good chemistry. They should not be messed with. It will be interesting to see what happens. If I were them I would start looking for new job right now.

Ah, the wonders of legalities. Skynet, more then likely they can't talk to anyone right now. Whether or not they are getting laid off, the contract they more than likely signed dictates that they can't even negotiate such things until they are relieved of the contractual obligations by Clear Channel.

i wouldnt be suprised to see geoff charles or paul (and or) al layed off i would bet they will keep the cheaper guys and let the vets go... like they did over at the bee and coast think how funny it would sound with paul OR al and kevin the stunt boy mornings on hjy

I don't see Paul and Al being touched until the day comes that HJY goes in a different direction with the music.Maybe Quinn and Cantara want more than CC is willing to offer and feel that after being part of a network they are in a better bargaining position to land a major gig somewhere else. They're probably right. If Brangitore is really going that's just history repeating itself.

Wow. I just had a scary thought. HJY let's go of Paul & Al and starts airing Imus!
Dunno about that, I think Citadel was serious about affiliates making room for him. Bye bye O&A, hello Imus on the Score I think.

.......
you know its funny i was thinking the same thing about Brangiforte...sux for him im sure cause he is gettin this end of the stick again. i am a big fan of his, listend to him on AAF and KKB and i always wonder if he was the PD over at KKB if things would have been different and if that station would still be around, they werent half bad. just starting to take off when it went off the air.

I could see Imus laning at either place. Citadel has some money coming their way on HJJ from Hannity, Clear Channel for years was digging into Pro's pockets with Rush. O&A will be dependent upon what XRK does in nYC

I've heard that O&A don't have the best relationship with the Program Director at K-Rock. They've also lost some major affiliates like YSP in Philly. CBS isn't happy with their ratings either. From all the information I have gathered, it looks like Opie and Anthony are on borrowed time. I expect to see CBS let them go in 2008.

O&A got old, they were funny a few years back, but its all gotten old, beaten into the ground. Score needs to be thinking ahead, which means its best to replace them now, and not be scrambling to fill time when CBS finally does drop them.
