HJY PULLS INFIDELITY SPOTS

HJY has pulled spots from ashleymadison.com, a dating service for the unhappily married. No one at the station or Clear Channel has commented, but a publicist for the website forwarded an email from the station citing a ton of upset listeners who complained. The president of the company calls HJY's decision unAmerican and problematic. Supposedly the company had planned on spending a half million dollars on radio & TV advertising in RI. As a Libertarian, I can't object to any business selling whatever they want. The market should have the right to decide with whom they want to do business. That being said, I would love to see Noel Biderman get a SEVERE beating. He needs it and I pray he is the recipient of one.

I'm just surprised in this economic climate at any station, much less a Clear Channel one, refusing ad dollars. Also, HJY has never been the type of station to care that much about public outcries.

I hear those spots all the time on Sirius/XM Radio. They are a major sponsor on The Howard Stern Show. Kind of a messed up concept from a moral standpoint. But from a business standpoint I guess they do quite well. Lots of people out there cheating. You "THINK" your significant other is at work? It might be time to THINK AGAIN. lol

Maybe HJY only pulled the ads for the holidays. It's time for families to come together and not the time for Ashley Madison to help break them up. I'm guessing that the ads will return in January. But who knows for sure?? Not me.

Merry Christmas everyone!!!

There are also ads for a 'Cougar" dating service that run on Howard on XM Sirus and on Fox Sports Radio..

The "Ashley Madison" ads are relatively tame..they probably took them out of rotation for the holiday weekend and will bring them back in 2010..Clear Channel has something like 17 billion in debt to deal with..its not going to start refusing clients..

I don't think they could stop running the spots just because of the holidays then agree to run the again. If that many listeners complained then it would start again and be worse. Frankly I still don't see HJY as the kind of station that would stop doing something because of listener complaints. As far as ashley madison planning on spending that much money in the market, why would HJY's actions stop them from running them elsewhere anyway? The only other station I could see agreeing to run them would be Hot 106. Neither HJY nor Hot 106 is all that reluctant to put things on their websites that some could consider objectionable.

They were running these Ashley Madison ads during the final days of WBCN, which made it kind of annoying to listen to. Not only is the website offering opportunities to cheat, but there was this horrible jingle.

I just don't see that anyone should object anyway. It isn't as if by hearing these spots anyone would be convinced to cheat. If you show an interest you've probably already strayed. I'm still surprised, of all audiences, it would be HJY's that would complain.
