Even after the Casey Anthony trial is over HLN is still spending HOURS everyday talking about it, running old footage of her in jail, please there's other things going on in the world, the last 3 years Nancy Grace and HLN spent way to much time covering that story.
 
It's not just HLN. It's everywhere else in news media that won't let a day pass without mentioning something about it. I'm guessing because of the verdict it's taking a little longer for this coverage to cool down.

I hope there isn't another trial that the media will get this obsessed with for a very long time.
 
It is a bit over-the-top. On one hand, I guess I don't blame HLN as they have seen their highest ratings ever with this trial and the on-going Nancy Grace commentary. They are determined to milk every last rating point out of this. It probably is a smart business decision.

Beyond that, gimme a break. "Countdown to Release". Really? Like anyone, anywhere, is going to be effected by this. It is completely nonsensical and meaningless to anyone except those obsessed with the trial. Wait...quite a few were, weren't they? Thanks to HLN. And no, it really isn't other networks, it IS HLN.

Okay Even though HLN is not owned by News Corp. (The owners of Fox and News of the World) HLN is owned by Time Warner with CNN, HBO, TNT, TBS, TruTV and TMZ. I suspect that HLN will be investigated too like News of the World because look why is Nancy Grace so obsessed with the Casey Anthony Case. I say that HLN must have phone and computer hacked Casey Anthony's records to get Casey Anthony national attention. I say lets investigate the Tabloids and Propaganda groups here in this country for Phone Hacking its not just a British issue anymore.

Okay. My other networks comment came from because I was sick and tired of hearing the non-Florida local news providing a update every single day on Casey Anthony. I'm sure others are sick of hearing about her too.

Does Nancy Grace actually do "investigation?"
Every time I've seen her, she's just prattling on at the top of her lungs.
Last time I saw her, she was amazed, befuddled and bewildered because there was a manhunt going on for a murderer, and it had spread to FIVE STATES! She couldn't imagine WHY THE POLICE HAD LET HIM GET SO FAR and it didn't seem to faze her that it was all going on in the corner of SC/NC/GA/TN. Geography, automotive locomotion, criminal mindsets, and other facts never seemed to occur to her.

don't HLN have missing white girls they need to find? or what is charlie sheen is doing today? HLN is a joke, this used to be a great network with real news and now its a wasteland
 
I've said it before and I'll say it again: CNN needs to get rid of HLN and stop cannibalizing its own audience. HLN's original purpose is now fulfilled quite well by CNN.com and is no longer needed, so it makes little business sense to have it stick around and continue to suck on the parent network's resources and revenue. Besides, the cost savings from either shutting down or selling HLN could be used to make CNN a better product.
 
Well, sell high would work now. Or, keep it and rake in the profits.

Except for that whole making money thing. :D

Far from cannibalizing the audience, given the different approaches, it's more of a compliment to it by appealing to a different audience by and large. Hence the reason the original purpose of HLN from back in the ancient days isn't relevant any longer.

I think most of us can agree...HLN is completely hideous with its programming. Yet, their ratings are now higher than ever. So here is the dilemma...ratings over content? Or, content over ratings? I think one only needs to follow the money in this case. Perhaps sad, but reality.

All CNN has to do to provide a "better product" is make CNN-International available to the US audience. I spent 2 weeks in Mexico last year, where CNN-I is carried (though they just call it "CNN" there). It's great global news coverage from serious journalists. The only weekday program it seemed to have in common with American CNN was The Situation Room (Wolf Blitzer).

But I believe CNN has determined that insular Americans have no interest in international news and analysis, and running CNN-I programming here would just make their American ratings tank even further. Sadly, they are probably right about that.

As we've seen recently from the increased ratings for HLN, Amercians prefer crime, scandal, and "news analysis" from the likes of Nancy Grace.

Either that or transform it into a Business News channel like CNBC or Fox Business OR move ALL the courtroom & legal programming off of TruTV & use HLN to restart Court TV since TruTV is FAR more successful with its "Actuality" programming these days (The latter move would be PERFECT for Nancy Grace as then we can expect to NOT find any real news on a new Court TV network)

BTW.....If they chose to go the Business News route, they could call it CNN Money to match the website & use a moniker like CNN Money = BUSINESS like they have with CNN's CNN = POLITICS moniker

JMO.....
