Mediaite has learned that CNN’s sister network HLN (Headline News) is preparing for “a significant amount of staff layoffs and show cancellations.” According to the story, much of the network’s daytime programming is going to be replaced with more entertainment-themed shows. Those changes will lead to staffing changes as well.

HLN should really change their name to TMZ, It will have high Profile trials like old CourtTV and all the tabloid stuff of Harvey Levin. But HLN already have their audience TMZ.

It's really a far cry from the days of Don Harrison, Lyn Vaughn and Chuck Roberts, isn't it? Remember those great "Is your pet psychic?" commercials?

Sometimes I miss the 30 minute news wheel of CNN2/Headline News until I remind myself that such a programming model has been pretty much replaced by news sites on the Internet. If you want quick and efficient news delivery these days, you just check online.

Boy I miss the Old HLN when they were more like the TV edition of 1010 WINS, KFWB. I think at one point KLIV-AM San Jose did simulcasts of Headlne News tis was back in the 1990's. and they

No reason to call it HLN anymore. It has jumped the shark indefinitely.

The problem is, the public's definition of "News" has changed.
It's become more important to entertain people, to slant the news to fit the viewer's attitudes, and to push the "social media feedback" aspects (every viewer has a soapbox via the Comment Board), than to report facts and do in-depth reports (which lead to tune-out by uninterested viewers).

Huh In-depth reports are Dead?? Then How come PBS affiliates changed their format in the past 15 years from airing arts and educational telecourse instructional programming to in-depth Documentaries, Investigative stories from Propublica, CIR, Frontline and PBS Newshour(This Excludes PBS weekend Pledge lineup). Please explain why Al-jazeera wants to give BBC, PBS and NPR a run for the money in terms of Investigative stories and International Stories. Look go back to MarcB's Post about "In Depth Reporting" I said the same stuff there. CNN, Fox and MSNBC attracts, Politicians Political donors, Pundits and Lobbyists. HLN goes after the courtTV, TMZ, National Enquirer, the News of the World Fans. Its all about Demographics of these venues.

Like I said Let Harvey Levin be the GM of HLN and Rename it TMZ since thats who the audience of HLN is.
