Hmmm! EAS - KFBK-FM

Hmmm! No new posts for almost a week? Sacramento is really exciting radio. ;)

Something interesting for EAS (at least to me anyway). In this area, KFBK-AM was LP1 for EAS. KGBY was LP2. Do I assume KFBK-FM is now LP2?

This would be good for one site I manage, since there's no AM reception inside the building. The EAS unit there has been monitoring 92.5 as primary station. It also receives 98Rock, since they consistently run RWT's and relay RMT's.

You're sorta correct. KGBY (now KFBK-FM), KFBK, and KSTE are the LP1 stations. The LP2 for this area is KEAR 88.1.

If your station lacks AM reception, it should monitor 92.5 as LP1 and 88.1 as LP2. The EAS plan doesn't allow you to monitor 98Rock as one of your official LPs. (You could monitor NWR).

Hope that helps

Thank you for the information!

At our main site, we have an AM/FM outside antenna. There's RG-11 from the antenna to inside the building. The antenna came with an AM-FM splitter. I'd call it a diplexer. From that, we monitor KFBK AM and FM, and NWS.

The remote site has no outside antenna...yet. 92.5 comes in well. I will try 88.1.

There's an old FM antenna on top of a small tower we no longer use. Eventually, I will have to climb it to remove the pre-amp. at the top. I would try a power supply before I make the climb.

You're welcome. Yes, monitor KFBK-FM (92.5) and KEAR (88.1) and you'll adhere to the EAS plan. And it's a good idea to monitor NWR as well (as you said).

My understanding is there's this fairness doctrine in operation, i.e., why hog it all? Spread the excitement around.

I see signs of this around town. At Greenback & Auburn, the billboard says Rush & Tom are Sacramento's greatest exports. This is confirmed by an A&G Twitter entry dated Dec. 22 saying that 910 AM in the Bay Area will as of 1/3/12 have "talent on loan from God."

This also coincides with the second coming of Gene Burns to 910 AM after the slayings at KGO. So that's where all the excitement is.

Meanwhile, exciting in my life is recalling I've got a box of EAS bars, the ones put out by the "Body for Life" guy. My emergency alert now is to check expiration dates. It may be time for those just-add-water meals I keep hearing advertised lately that last 25 years. (Will those be on the new revived exciting Dining Around?)

Now that was the best Sacto post in a long time! HAPPY NEW ONE! ;D
