I get a CRAPPY response from a PD in the North East. I was told "OMG, stay in the SOUTH, you are an embarrasment and an insult to my station". Uhhhmmm...Holy crap. As far as I know, there are TWO stations in the top ten that are from the SOUTH. How did these two top ten stations become "embarraments and insults?" WOW, I am FLOORED. I HATE this stupid accent. Apparently it won't work anywhere but SOUTH (maybe Midwest?) Screw it, I wanna stay in Tulsa anyway, but still, what a BITCH that PD was to an applicant. For all she knows, I am a multi talented voice person (which I'm not) and maybe I was trying to act like W & J for [EDIT] and giggles. People suck. :(

[EDIT-profanity]

WAIT...I saved the email. If anything, SOMEONE might be canned over it, right? I dunno about this stuff. Then again, I dunno if I could go that far with it. But still, just shows how UGLY people can be. :(

Well one thing's for sure, that PD is in dire need of PR skills lessons. :(

Forget him. Plenty of people with Suth'n accents have done well in broadcasting outside of the South. John Henry Faulk, Keith Jackson, and others. It isn't how you sound. It's what you have to say. Keep pluggin'.

Yeah, I was FLOORED at the response. And it was well over a year ago that I sent that bimbo a package. Sheeeesh....

I HATE this stupid accent.

Don't say that! I was born in the north, and I've always liked southern accents. You've got a great voice - don't go changing it because some nobody PD is jealous of it.

Is it a good sized company? They've probably got very serious rules about treating professionals with respect, and obviously you weren't. Find out the name of the PD's boss's boss's boss, and write a very nice letter saying that you weren't treated in a professional manner. Include the e-mail. Make sure you find out the Human Resource manager's address, and copy them.

Companies are VERY wary nowadays of mistakes made in the application process. It can be very costly.

Thanks Paul for the compliments. :) Yeah, it's a big company, after reading the email again, I am wondering if a disgruntled employee did it. The email is that crappy. FOR REAL! Soooo...with THAT being said, I'd hate to contact HR and the PD DIDN'T do it. Then again, if the PD is THAT big of a bitch, she'd probably lie about it. Not worth my time to worry with it. Still just SHOCKED over it tho' LOL :)

Hope everyone is well!

PS.....I am doing 7-Midnight on Z104.5 The Edge here in Tulsa. Been doing it since the end of July. I am filling in until they find a replacement. I have applied for the job but no word on if I will get it. "ALL YA'LL" wish me luck! (saying that in my Walton and Johnson southern accent, now THOSE two, I might understand a PD saying "HOLY HELL, stay in the South") ;)

Some VOs are instant classics, many of which live in Texas. Little accent but a familiar drawl that makes a recognizable sound into a memorable one.

Northerners may differ on what makes a good "sound" (note CSB for example...) but don't let the meandering opines of one twit get you down. You wouldn't where you are at, and sound like you do, if you sucked. His response blew hard, but there are some such things as VO snobs. And if you met, piss on 'em... it takes a Southern Belle to know there are plenty more fish in that big sea.

Keep on stylin' girl. ;D
