"Ho Hey" Finding Itself on B98.5

According to Mediabase, B has added "Ho Hey" by the Lumineers, as well as "Locked Out of Heaven" earlier this week. They're playing "Ho Hey" every five hours and "Locked" every 4. It is almost exact too, which just shows how polished B is.

I think this supports my theory that PD Chris Eagan is trying to give the station a "lighter" sound but keeping it about 45-50% current....sorta like the WLNK-FM Charlotte model instituted there by PD Anthony Michaels. The Link is a cross between a heavy-80s "Max FM"-type format and our local Star 94. And so far; the post-Christmas weeklies show it's working for B.

Seems like it's going down that "Fresh" route that several ACs have gone down in the past few years. I wonder if B will keep to where it's at currently, since it's working, or if they will go the way of Fresh in NYC and DC and go all-in with Hot AC.

I've heard that song on B and maybe Star for the past .. 3 weeks or so? Was actually refreshing to hear that along with Mumford and Sons. Good stuff.

If anything, B98.5 is sounding lighter than they were a year ago. The rhythmic titles have diminished and 80s/90s now make up half, if not the majority of the hourly playlist. Early 80s softer titles like "Missing You" by John Waite, "Heart and Soul" by Huey Lewis, and "Your Love" by The Outfield have been added. 90s Alternative like "Unwell" by the Goo Goo Dolls and "The Space Between" by Dave Matthews, which for the longest time was labeled AC by former Cox President (and WSB-FM Micro-Manager), has increased in frequency.

All in all, the station sounds much better under Chris Eagan. It has a more Adult Contemporary sound, while still maintaining an upbeat tempo.

I'm in the dentist chair about to get two fillings They are playing B98.5! They kicked off their workday with Jordan Graye!

Did you know that, if you listen closely to the lyrics of "Ho Hey" when they segue from the chorus to the second verse, the word "sweetheart" is cut off, so it sounds like they're singing, "You're my sweet - ho!" Imus should talk about this on his show as a goof.

As far as playlists are concerned, I think propping up the AC format with a wider variety of 80's and 90's songs might just be the new norm. A station in the Washington area just implemented this method last week.

Exactly...larger playlist now includes John Waite, The Outfield, more INXS, more Police, a song from Huey Lewis as well as a mellower sound with softer currents ("Ho Hey" for example or "Realize" by Colbie Caillat.)

@JVR: That was Matchbox 20 with "Unwell."

My Bad! Thanks.
