Hoax, real? Malone & Sweeney replacing Tom and Todd?

On Tom Finneran & Todd Feinburg's show they're saying they "read on the internet on the weekend"
that Joe Malone and Steve Sweeney are replacing them in a couple days. and supposedly they called Malone and he said he was going to be doing a show, etc. There are posts on the WRKO facebook group, an alleged Save Tom and Todd group may start , they're suggesting people call Jason Wolfe when he gets in at 11 am etc.

No details yet in Herald or RKO site. Hoax? Real? You never know

--I just heard about the morn show change. Please keep Todd Fineburg around, , he's great. Maybe Todd can take over the 12-3 slot (that Charlie guy is boring).Plus having Todd & Howie, back to back , would be amazing.

Don't know where T&T read about it "on the internet". They had a reg feature on just now and Todd said "you'll be back tomorrow, I guess it'll be our final show"...

Sweeny has done radio at ZLX and iirc nights at RKO before, Malone has done TV, imho they can't be any worse than T&T, although I would feel badly for Todd as this would not be the first time Entercom screwed him.

Supposedly prog announcement today at noon on 96.9. Both Mark S and I noted that it says "TBD"
(to be determined) on WTKK's sched page under Sat 8-10 am and Sun 2-5 pm (Jimmy Myers gone?)

There goes WTKK's only person-of-color. (Not only are ALL of 969's hosts white, but some border on albino.) Jimmy Myers was not only relegated to a time period opposite beisbol in the summer and futbol in the fall, he was NEVER invited to sub for Vacay Jay or any other hosts who took normal amounts of time off. The FCC MUST alter the rules so that US radio stations can imitate some stations in Mexico and use 5 call letters, so 969 can become WTKKK.
 
When the Imus flap happened, Howie jokingly called them "WTKKK" on air.Of course Howie had
used Alan Dershowitz in a case against Imus talking nasty about Howie's wife who wasn't a public personality; that case, Howie noted in the intro to his first book*, was settled out of court;
so Howie was having a little fun with the situation.
Curiously enough it almost looked like Howie would wind up on WTKK in the Imus slot. Then
judges ruled against him and Imus came back via a diff. syndicator (he now is only on 5-7 am
though)

*--Howie has a second book coming out next yr, to be followed by a third.

Now Graham is going into his top of hour break and he said coming up a huge announcement ABOUT the Michael Graham show... ?...?

WRKO morning-drive radio duo Tom Finneran and Todd Feinburg played a fast one on listeners this morning, fueling phony blog rumors that they were being replaced with Republican former state treasurer Joe Malone and Boston comedian Steve Sweeney.

The rumor mill began churning Friday morning, when Malone and Sweeney went on Jim Braude and Margery Eagan’s show on rival news talk station WTKK-FM (96.9).

Malone and Sweeney talked about the launch of their new radio show — but there was no mention of the name of the station — only that it was a competitor.

Needless to say, the blogosphere went wild.

Hedlund had Finnerans producer on his show to discuss this. Hedlund said tongue in cheek that it was the 2 nd biggest hoax in radio history after War of the Worlds then his producer played clip of Orson Welles.
 
This "joke" may have had the opposite effect than intended.

My brother who is a big listener of their program and talkradio in general, wrote to me when he heard them going on and on about it on the air.

When I sent him the article telling him it was a hoax, he told me that he was pissed when he learned that it was all a ruse.
 
If you paired Steve Sweeney with Todd Feinburg you could have had a show with the
same name as a Broadway musical--Sweeney Todd! :) ( The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street)

Given the diversity of their views, you might also have the kind of crimes that the Sweeney Todd of the musical committed. :) :mad:
