Hockey on TNT

Ratings should be very high for the Miami vs Boston game 7. It will be the first time that the team that fell behind 3-0 will host Game 7. Only 3 other teams forced a 7th game when down 3-0, but they played on the road in Game 7.

If the Celtics win Game 7 it will add to the lore of Boston sports. They'll be become the first team in the NBA to win a series after being down 3-0(Teams leading 3-0 are 150-0 at the moment). The Red Sox beat the Yankees after trailing 3-0 and went on to the win the World Series (ending an epic drought). The Patriots beat Atlanta in the Super Bowl after trailing 28-3. Pretty good stuff for Boston sports fans. It will also take the sting out of the Bruins playoff defeat...

Except for the anti-wokes who have canceled the Celtics and the NBA from their lives. Yes, such people exist in Boston; witness, the struggles of Bud Light stands to sell their product at Fenway Park in the wake of the "trans can" decision.

Some of those same people also said they would never watch the NFL again because of players kneeling during the National Anthem. The NFL ratings are sky high...
 
Couple of stinkers last night, both games pretty much over one period/one half through. The hour-by-hour numbers on both will be depressing, especially to advertisers who bought late-game spots. Both leagues now get no-buzz finals featuring teams that didn't appear much on its featured weekend games during the regular season. Non-interest by casual fans and fans of other teams will probably depress ratings for both series. I remember a lot of grousing over the San Antonio Spurs' show-killer reputation, ratings-wise, during their period of domination. This probably won't be that bad, but I'm sure the NBA's TV people are not happy about the failure of either the Celtics or Lakers to follow the script and get to the final.

I thought the Celtics had a chance at the end of the 3rd quarter. Then the 3th began and it was over.

Charles Barkley sounded very excited about the Stanley Cup Final coming to TNT. Wonder why. No heritage at all, as neither team has ever won. They're going to have a lot of work getting people to watch.

Same thing happened in the NHL. Vegas throttled Dallas 6-0 and it was over before it started. They played in Dallas too. Very surprising.

Stars were Jekyll and Hyde during the playoffs, and they looked totally worn down in the 6-0 loss to VGK. Still was a very good season overall, but ignominious end.

I know the Stanley Cup Finals ratings will probably be abysmal for TNT, but I’m glad to see a situation where the the Stanley Cup will have a first time winner.

Good time to be a sports fan in SoFLA.

the Kraken series was truly the Stars' downfall as instead as being forced into playing all 7 games of that series took away any steam left with the team and they lost 2 games in a row in Vegas and that game 3 loss was the first nails on the coffin, last night was the final nails being hammered in and sealing it shut.

The Celtics were erratic during the playoffs. They got by Philadelphia, but too inconsistent. They looked out of sorts in Game 7. Maybe the gas tank was empty from coming back from 3-0. Denver should roll Miami in 5 or 6 games.

Florida vs Vegas may not get many viewers in Miami or Vegas. Not exactly Hockey country in those places. I wouldn't be surprised if the ratings are higher in places like Pittsburgh or Detroit even though those teams won't be playing...
 
The problem with the NHL and NBA is that the playoffs take way too long to finish. You never know what channel each game is on. It’s just way to disjointed.

So did everyone in the NBA's TV office, but for once, a Nielsen-friendly matchup didn't materialize. I wonder if those responsible for not following the script that worked so well for the Jordan Bulls and LeBron's Cavs and Heat will be swimming with the fishes before this series is done. :devilish:

Well, if they'd played better, they'd be there. A LeBron-less NBA Finals is a pleasure to watch, even though I'm not a fan of either the Nuggets or the Heat. Now if they only could have been on TNT instead of ESPN/ABC... :D

No. The NBA/NFL or MLB allow their championship game or series of games on pay television. They want those games on free TV to get as large of an audience as possible. The NHL is different because hockey has an hard time attracting an audience in the USA.

The NBA wants the most money for their rights.
 
Has there ever been an in-depth analysis done of the population that still depends on over-the-air television for all their sports viewing? I'm thinking that if the cable/streaming shunners are largely poor and/or over 55 that the three major sports leagues might accept more money from a pay television-only carrier for their finals, as their advertisers would prefer to reach an audience that, while somewhat smaller, would be significantly younger and more affluent, which in turn would increase the amount of money those advertisers would pay.

Crass and elitist? Yes, but isn't that the way the corporate world is trending?
