Not to mention that there are plenty of free internet sources for stories on the deaths of sports superstars. It's hard to imagine that the Washington Post would have any more insight on Hull than ESPN, the NHL's official site, or Chicago TV or radio sites would. (Not sure if the Chicago newspapers have gone behind paywalls yet.)Easy to get around if you have an Apple device.![]()

The Bruins lost three well-known players -- Gerry Cheevers, Derek Sanderson and Ted Green -- to the new league. It was VERY big news in Boston. Fortunately, the WHA put a team (the New England Whalers) in the Boston Garden, so we got to see Green with the home team and Cheevers and Sanderson when they visited with the Cleveland Crusaders and Philadelphia Blazers, respectively.913 career regular season goals when his NHL and WHA numbers are combined.
I remember the big splash when Hull signed with the WHA‘s Winnipeg Jets. The contract and bonus would be considered paltry by today’s standards, but it was an absolutely staggering amount of money in 1972.
