Hodge Podge format

The reason why "Jack" is NOT getting big numbers is because it's a hodge podge format. Too much inconsistancy. What's needed is a CLASSIC HITS format. Not oldies, not classic rock. Classic Hits would play songs from the '60s and '70s that were genuine Top 40 hits. If the song peaked at #39, it would still get airplay. "Oldies" formats are too limited and Jack is like the 1950s & 1960s MOR format...a little bit of this and a little bit of that that pleases nobody.

How many Classic Hits stations are there and how many of them are posting
big numbers? Nashville is a good example of a Jack station not getting big #'s
--- it's only the #1 rated station in every aspect. The other markets,
with a few exceptions,which looking at the specific demo's can't totally
support the concept, are doing just fine. CH has been tried, hasn't
it?

I always thought that classic hits was way too rock-leaning...more of a classic rock lite than a real "hits" format. That may have had something to do with the format's lack of success.

I disagree with the previous poster that implied that anything that made the top 40 was fair game...c'mon...a song that peaked at #35 was not a hit by any stretch of the imagination...what makes you think anyone would want to hear it 30 years later? Granted, there are a handful of songs that didn't do well at the time, but have aged well but they're the exception not the rule.

OK, other than New York, where is JACK not getting big numbers? Please provide us evidence vs. anecdotal opinions.
