Hold It Against Me - why so popular?

I'm really disgusted that Britney Spears is still making music. I went on some remix download sites and found on one site there are over 50 remixes of that one song. This is pitiful. What is so great about her? I like many other female musicians but this one has no voice and her music is def. not as good as Sarah McLachlan. Even Kesha is better. Does anyone wish she would stop singing new songs?

Nightline had a profile of Dr. Luke last night. He produced that song and many other CHR hits. I would say that he is a big reason why the song is so popular. He has his finger on the pulse of what is really popular right now.

"The Outsider" has it exactly right. The song's continued success has little to do with Britney herself and everything to do with the production, which sounds exactly right for the moment.

And LOL at Sarah McLachlan- on CHR in 2011?

It looks like Perfect by Pink might pass it in the next couple weeks, and block it from hitting #1 - actually, GaGa might even pass it also

I liked the Circus album and in my opinion it had a fresh club friendly sound that was as good as and could easily be played alongside GaGa and Ke$ha. This new song sounds a lot more like the Britney we knew back in 2000. Its not a bad song, it just sounds dated in my opinion.

It's definitely grinding to a halt on CHR, and it's down to #22 or so on I-Tunes after just a few weeks of release

In retrospect, I really don't think this is going to be considered a major hit - probably similar to a "Frozen" by Madonna or "Thank U" by Alanis Morissette

It has a really good beat for people who, like me, are into dance music. Kinda like what someone else said, it's not so much that it's Britney but it's the production and the beat. I personally love it!

It already has a negative bullet (and it's been out for about a month) - almost like CHR made a mistake

That has to be the most ridiculous statement I have read on these boards in a long time. The song peaked at number 3 on the CHR Airplay charts, both Mediabase and BDS. I would not call that a flop or a mistake by any strech of the imagination. You have to let this bias against rhythmic songs go. Mumford & Sons, Sanford & Son or whoever they are won't be getting Mainstream CHR airplay anytime soon.

Lol having a negative bullet after only 6 weeks on the chart means the callout is low - stations automatically assumed everyone loved this song, and they clearly didn't - it's plain and simple

I think the negativity towards "Hold It Against Me" is overstated. Britney is an immensely popular artist, but not every single can be a mega-hit. She charted, and she charted well, and she probably reinvigorated her core audience and reminded them that she has a new disc coming out.

As far as the song goes, the lyrics are ridiculous, but this is the first top 40 hit to incorporate dubstep, so I think it did remarkably well while breaking ground with a seldom heard form of electro music.

Dude, obviously your outside of the demo or core audience. It's not your cup of tea, great, but no one wants to see threads from you dissing the latest CHR hit and whining about celebrities, unless they find the threads amusing. Yes, popular music isn't what it once was, but they're successful.

You're assuming he's rooting for indie/alternative music? Bad assumption. Not every person who dislikes ONE CHR song is some hard core indie person.

Ah i see. hard to guess without any quotes ;D

I guess it would be one thing if all these dance/rhythmic tracks looked like they'd be lasting hits, but I've never seen so many "hits" fly up and down the charts so fast - it's like people like a certain sound of music, but it's more about the artists and the dance club sound than the actual songs - and 3-4 years from now, IMO CHRs gonna have a big problem in that there won't be any recurrents to play (similar to the situation with CHRs in 1993-1994)

IMO....Dance/rhythmic tracks has never had lasting appeal....it's usually seems to be an of the moment genre...or maybe played as an oh wow factor..."Hey I remember that song from 20 years ago" That being said I think the market is over saturated with Dance product right now...I still believe a chr/mainstream should be balanced. isn't this the issue that created the Rhythmic panel in the 1st place. Don't get me wrong I was very pleased when dance was making a comeback on CHR...I think dance always has a place on chr...it is a great format from the genre...I just think it needs to be broken up with a little more Variety...otherwise it all starts sounding the same.
