Holiday 2010 ratings

The Holiday 2010 ratings were just posted. They cover the four weeks ending Jan 5, and so reflect even more of the Christmas season than the last ("December") book.

WLZT is #1, and WSNY is #2. Looks like rock stations' ratings may have weathered Santa best.

One surprise is seeing "WCVO-FM Stream" on the list, at a .2. I was under the impression that a stream had to be a 100% simulcast of the parent station to be counted (i.e., no web-only ad or PSA substitutions). But I thought (perhaps incorrectly?) that such stream listening would then be folded into the parent station's ratings??

WLZT #1 Kudos to Clear Channel for being the KING of Christmas in Columbus. (Ofcourse folks here are still going to chime in and say it's a waste of Signal..) but hey it's making CC money, that's what is important!

WCVO's stream has more listeners than a middle dial talk station on AM in Town ... Still say 1230 needs to flip to Radio Disney .. would gain more listeners I think.

Roo that had to be hard to type that WLZT was number 1 even if it was just for Christmas.

I think the reason the stream is counted separately, is advertising is sold seperately for the stream, im sure you have noticed that not all commercials that go out over the air, go out on the stream.

one thing i really thought was funny is the CUME for WWCD it was 101,100. man they really cant shake that 101 thing

Even taking into account how PPM further-concentrates Christmas listening due to both methodology and survey dates, it is unbelievable how well holiday music did for many stations across the country. In the ultra-competitive Chicago market CC's "Lite" WLIT surged from 3.6 in November to 12.1 in Holiday!! The # 2 station there didn't even have half the share of WLIT!

It will be interesting to see what happens in the next book locally (especially to the ACs) since -- unlike the diary -- Christmas listening will be 100% gone from the ratings calculations. Poof!

What I'm noticing....

1) I'm noticing that alot of the holiday music stations got a nice 1.0 to 1.5 bump in the numbers. Unless you are WLZT and you can just TRIPLE YOUR RATINGS!

2) I don't even think Radio Disney can help WYTS now.

3) WWCD will never be able to shake that 101.1 as hard as they can.

How did WQAL (FM) and WKNR (AM), both Cleveland stations, show up in the Columbus ratings?? Granted, it was only a 0.1 share for each (like WYTS :)), but it's still surprising. Does this just mean a Columbus PPM carrier spent a lot of time to the north, and kept their PPM with them? Wonder if we could theoretically end up with Los Angeles listening in Columbus? Does anyone know what guidelines Arbitron gives PPM-wearers regarding travleing?

A PPM panelist is always "home" to their own market. So if they take their meter to another market that has PPM encoded signals, that listening would show up in the listener's home market ratings.

It never amounts to much, nor does it have any real affect on shares, but it is reported.

WKNR is easily heard here during the day. If I listen to Rome, it's usually on KNR instead of 1230. Remember too that WLW has shown up in the ratings here for years.

But WQAL "Q104" up here is heard pretty much nowhere near the Columbus market, so I presume that's Columbus meters wandering north.
