Holiday Music Promo on 106.7 Lite-FM

Thought everyone would just be DYING to hear this :p! At around 12:40 this afternoon, I heard the beginning of "The Christmas Song" on Lite-FM after the commercial break. Then, their voice-over artist stated, "On Thanksgiving, it becomes Christmas... Non-stop Holiday Music... 106.7 Lite-FM," then into "Ain't Too Proud to Beg" after the promo.

It would surprise me if they would wait until Thanksgiving to turn up the Christmas music. Last year, their ratings jumped quite a bit with the Christmas music, and they started mid-November (the 18th I believe).

I almost jumped out of my skin when I heard it. As much as I enjoy Christmas music when Lite-FM plays it, starting to promote it now (even if it's just a :10 or :15 spot) is TOO EARLY!

Happy Holidays, folks! ;D

i heard it also, are they kidding...they should get on the duane reade calendar of events....i mean, its only september and we are thinking of xmas music...thats a good way to keep listeners tuned in from october till then...lets tease them with xmas music...i guess their concert was a preview of their future with 50+ adults...

Home Depot's Christmas Tree section is now on display. I think this is the earliest I've seen Christmas promotions of any kind and we have both radio and retail. Only one week since the end of summer...

Well i was at my Local Meijer this afternoon and they were already getting the christmas decorations set up and already getting rid of half of the halloween decorations. And we still have a month till Halloween LOL. and there is one Station in Columbus Ohio that has a Christmas Music internet stream that started this week.

Before we know it, we'll be hearing Christmas promos in August and the music will start playing in September!
I love christmas but i think its a bit xtreme with the music!!!

ITS SO HARD TO GET AWAY FROM!!!!!!!!!!!

I actually had a guy write a nasty letter last year because he was mad that we stopped playing Christmas song AFTER Christmas!

Go figure...

Actually, that logic makes sense to me. Many people still listen to Christmas music after Christmas through the end of the year... it wouldn't hurt for Christmas music stations to maybe add ONE more day of Christmas music and end at 11:59PM on December 26. But, it's nothing to write a letter about.

A reasonable stay for the Christmas music is (for me anyway) somewhere from mid-November to December 25 or 26. It's nice to have the week leading up to Thanksgiving filled with Christmas music.

I usually tune in to the holiday stations from start to end, and it's not uncommon that I find myself listening to the stations online that flipped to the all-holiday format (WNIC, KOSY, the old WSNI) before local stations like Lite-fm, WMGQ, or others do. I actually DO like the Christmas music on for a long time... I just don't feel the need to start advertising in September. Start MAYBE in late-October, but if you're not flipping on 11/1, why air promos until November 1? Lite-fm had the Christmas audience to themselves last year, and I wouldn't be surprised if they had even more of an audience to themselves this year, since I seem to doubt that Magic 98.3 WMGQ will be playing the Christmas music. It never has really seemed to help them out in the ratings.

wmgcbs,

You're right, we actually do play Christmas music right through the end of the year. This guy was upset over the lack of Christmas music and songs closely associated with the holiday season well into January. I'd should have made that clear in my previous post.

I hate it when stations that go all Christmas for weeks and weeks go cold turkey at midnight on December 26th. Some even end holiday programming ON Christmas Day. Luckily there are some stations (my local AC WSUS) mixes in holiday music through the end of the year.

Yeah... that IS ridiculous. After the new year, if people still want Christmas music, it's always out there on the Internet or on CDs...

I think it will be later than 101 The Rose, I am thinking Nov 15th they will flip to all XMAS!!! At that point the Rose will go off til they return to regular music and WPLJ will be streaming to me and if not them it will be WAYV-Mays Landing.

Get ready, XMAS is coming!!! This is the time of year, I drag out my CD's and play my own music. I can't stand all XMAS music!!!

Lite FM if you get the ratings through this, it is a good move but I will not be a part of it. Plus anyways, I got 101 The Rose (my fav station AC/Hot AC, heck, they are period with WPLJ following second.

Although when in NYC, i liked the sound of Lite-FM so keep up the good work.

thank god this wont be happening in philly ;D

sunny 104.5 is gone ;D

While Sunny did start too early for my taste, they did do a good job of it. I'll miss their Christmas programming. Now all Philly's got is the Gloria Estefan obsessed B101.

Exactly. Sunny did a superb job and was probably one of my all-time favorite Christmas music stations, along with WLYT/Charlotte (they have a BIG variety of Christmas tunes and aren't afraid to play the classics). In Central NJ on a good night, you could pull in Sunny, and it was nice to hear them playing a LOT of classics that aren't played on other Christmas music stations (like Ray Conniff, more Bing and Andy Williams...). WMGQ and WLTW aren't really that great with Christmas programming, although I'll prefer WLTW over Magic anyday, Christmas music or not...
