Holidays-Do us engineers get any time off?

"The internet is a wonderful thing, being able to VPN and remote in to almost everything now.

I can re route audio, turn things on and off, check the Intraplex, log in to the TX, send EAS tests... all from my phone." Amen to that! LogMeIn and my RealVNC app are some of my best tools these days. It's amazing how handy it can be to switch audio to a backup link, see what's going on, kick the automation or switch it's sat feed, etc. I'm all about remoting whatever I can, especially if it has an IP connector on it. We all are overloaded with extra stuff to do these days it seems. Working smarter is a whole lot easier and more productive than harder.

Been there, done that. After changing careers many years ago, I have five weeks vacation plus ten company holidays. It took a long time to get over the stress of being on call 24/7 to nurse the station back on the air. While I loved radio engineering (and still do), I love peace and quiet more.

A year or so ago, KDYL in Salt Lake had an automation system problem on Christmas Eve, and it needed extensive "babysitting".
Their boss, Ralph Carlson, said to just leave it off until December 26, when the engineers could spend some time with it.
Good man, that Ralph Carlson.
