Inside Radio reports that Clay Holladay’s Gulf South Communications picks up a fourth FM in market #192, acquiring talk WRJM-FM, Geneva (93.7) from Stage Door Development Corp. for $1.1 million. Holladay’s other Dothan stations include “Country 96.9” WDJR, classic country “105.3 Legends” WDBT and “Rock 102.5” WESP.

IS that a good price?
1.1 M, compared to market #228
Redding, and the KZRO asking price:
1.5 M...

also, do stations ( FM) or "awesome" AM-blow torches,
still get sold ? or is it just one here and there...

I mean, yes I'M Sure, the un-marketed, (say, MISSISSIPPI,
or Alabama Station) may get LMA/sold, but an IMPACT station...
...does it still happen ?! (on a semi-regular basis?)

will they change formats? i enjoy the talk format as we can't hear coast to coast am here. during tropo, RJM comes in loud and clear.

A music FM would be cheaper to run, so I wouldn't be totally surprised to see news/talk go away...or at least, go to a smaller signal.

Mainstream country on 96.9, classic country bumped up to 93.7, death to 95.5 WTVY? ???

How about putting ESPN Radio on 93.7 FM out there (Dothan market)? It probably has to be one of the largest markets in the nation without an ESPN affiliate.

Sorry Rob. Might as well say bye bye to George Noory on RJM.

There must be a blue moon. I, along with Rob, will miss the strangeness overnight.

Coast to Coast is why I wound up getting XM. WERC in Birmingham has a very good nighttime signal, but when travelling I was getting tired of the flip-o-rama: 1200 - 1120 - 1510 - 1620 - [local station]. Constantly to maintain the signal.

Ironically I disliked the sound quality of the music channels immensely and found what I wanted on terrestrial radio. Now that I'm in Mississippi, C2C is on FM over most of the state but local music stations stink, so I'm using XM for music instead.

Not a huge surprise (IMO) that The Radio People decided to keep the news/talk format around. Though the sports radio suggestion was a good one.

so will there still be a classic country station with radio people

I don't know if you know it or not but ESPN Radio was tried in Dothan about a year and a half or so ago,but it didn't work. It was put on the air to compete with WOOF Am 560

..and who was it that "tried" to do the sports format?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, since I live Up here in Cullman Co. well out of Dothan's market, But I believe it used to be 100.5 WLDA licensed to Slocomb.

Also, i'm very confused. Is there really five Country stations in Dothan Now?
So 93.7 is Classic Country, 100.5 is "The Bull," 105.3 is Classic Country, 95.5 is still Country, and 96.9 is Country?

I love Country, but even that sounds like too much of the same stuff. As Waylon once said, "Are You Sure Hank Done it this way?" ;D

Yep! That's pretty much it. You see the people in Dothan radio have been so busy trying to keep up with the Jone's that they have forgotten that what they should be doing is entertaining listeners, and by doing so they could actually make more money. But, they are not capable of thinking in those terms. They are too worried about what everyone else is doing....it's like dealing with children...on the short bus. And by the way it's not five country stations in the market..it's six!!! There is also WEEVIL 101 ;D Which, fun fact here, I just realized is the second oldest country station in the market...thought that was pretty cool. Anyway, radio is terrible down there...if you drive through I would suggest CD's or i-pod or whatever..just NOT the radio. (except for a couple of stations)

P.S-You can also, depending on your location in the market pick up at least two or more country stations on your radio from outside the market----YEE HAW!!
