Holland on The Ed Schultz Show! :)

The thing that stuck out to me is that you are against Potty mouths on the radio. You don't even think the word Bastard should be used because such language coming out of the dashboard might offend soccer Moms. Wow.. you must hate what radio has become! I do agree that there is definitely an imbalance going on. More than 90 percent of hosts today are pushing their conservative agenda. That is the reason "I" hate what radio has become. Potty mouths are the least of radios problems. Pushing hate agendas is the REAL issue that needs to be addressed. That pumpkin head Limbaugh is a narrow minded Robot. Now we have to deal with all his empty headed clones too. Both locally and nationally. They are the real bastards.

Why does the marketplace reject liberal talk radio from coast to coast?
Might be the content huh? ;D

Pick a coast, either coast.

I'm thinkin' you might live...BETWEEN coasts?

On the West coast, we have the USA's most-consistently-successful station, more consecutive #1 P12+ books than any other station in history, KGO/San Francisco. Their Ronn Owens beats Rush head-to-head. Heard Ronn?

But "liberal" talk vs. "conservative" talk misses the point.
Radio's biggest star, Rush Limbaugh, gets a 5-share many places. 5% listen.
Might we aim higher?
What are those other 95% up to?

On the East coast, the USA's most-listened-to FM talker -- the-most-listened-to station in its entire state -- New Jersey 101.5 -- doesn't even talk about national politics.

Plenty of radio righties have crashed too.
Remember Ollie North and Pat Buchanan doing radio?

How about Air America?
'Flopped because it was about zealotry, not a business model; not entertaining.

Now, if you'll excuse me, Glenn Beck is fielding audience questions for an hour, and looks near-tears...

The marketplace cannot sell liberal hosts... most large companies with a big ad budget are owned by conservatives who don't want to support the liberal point of view. Just look at what happened to Air America. Good hosts ... too liberal. Even companies which pretend to be very liberal and progressive don't spend money on a liberal show. In my never humble opinion of course.

RE "The marketplace cannot sell liberal hosts..."

Radio's having a pretty tough time selling the righties too...especially lately.
Last week, I met with a MAJOR-LEAGUE media buyer, a heavy hitter who places MILLIONS in radio dollars.
He says there are still don't-buy-Limbaugh conditions on lots of national buys.

Beck reportedly lost 17 advertisers when he called the president a racist, and said Obama doesn't understand "the white culture."

Most of what you hear now is "fake advertising," Direct Response deals that ask you to "ENTER PROMO CODE SEAN."
Or ads trying to sell you gold...at historic highs.

I'm less the-conspiracy-theorist than Ed is on this (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/36124326#36124326), but I'll share one anecdote...

As then-Texas-governor George W. Bush announced he'd run for president, I got a FedEx.
Enclosed: a return FedEx envelope, and a letter from Tom Hicks, who ran CapStar, that station group that Clear Channel gobbled up.
Hicks bought the Texas Rangers from Bush.
I was consulting his station in Baton Rouge at the time.
I and other vendors who received similar packages were "invited" to donate $1000 to the Bush campaign.

Ed's reference to Beck's poor ratings in DC makes the point.
These shows aren't necessarily on because they get ratings.
And "ratings" now means as-little-as-a-5-share?
Please.

Holly the best you can do as testament to the power of lib radio is San Fransicko??
ha ha ha ha ha.....in the words of legendary sportscaster Dick Enberg, "Oh my"........... ha ha ha ha ha
And if anyone knows about poor ratings it's Ed Schultz because they follow him wherever he lands with his stale hate.
Ain't that right Holly?? :D
By the way MissAM leftist media doesn't fly across the spectrum and spare us the old tired lib talking points about corporations
being conservative as the reason for lib media failures.
Ever hear the name George Soros?? Bill Gates?? Steve Jobs??
GE/NBC are in bed with the Obama administration.
Yet your media sinks.
Your newspapers are dying and Obama's mouthpiece TV news networks are sinking like a rock.
Why is that??
Because you lie and "We The People" know it.

I wasn't going to bring this up...but since YOU did...

Radiohead09 said:

Another ratings factoid ferya: While KGO/SFO remains the-most-successful-station-in-radio-ratings-history (consecutive number of P12+ #1 Arbitron books), the highest actual SHARE of any AM station in the USA, at the time, was KFGO/Fargo.

"At the time" was a dozen years ago, when I was introduced as "the new consultant" there to a skeptical local host, Ed Schultz.

FROM FARGO, he went into national syndication, then to MSNBC.
Maybe you're doing better, but, because you're anonymous here, we can't know.

BUT WAIT...IT GETS WORSE...

Why just post zingers here, on a local board?
You can call me names NATIONALLY, by posting a comment on The Huffington Post, where they're calling me "a liberal:"

I love how when people disagree with Liberal thought...they are labeled "Haters".

I 'm not labeling Rush a Hater because he disagrees with liberal thought. I'm labeling Rush a hater because the words that come out of his mouth are literally hateful. I have conservative friends. They aren't pompus A-holes. That's the difference. There is a way to get your point across without being a hater. Rush doesn't understand how to do that.

And here's another...

Another word game I noticed repeatedly when I was in Washington, and which we witnessed again as Healthcare Reform passed: When the other side has more votes than your side, they "rammed it through."

When the other side has one vote more than necessary, and disregards the 49% who disagree....they use a parliamentary maneuver never meant for bills such as this.......that's when they are charged with "ramming it through".

;-)

"they are charged with "ramming it through"

Ooooo, "charged."

And "the rules" become "this parliamentary maneuver."

How-many-of the-39-other-times this "maneuver" was used were "charged" to the-side-that-happened-to-lose this time?

As explained in junior high school Social Studies: There are no ties.

Good morning from FLVB,* where NAB2010 began yesterday.

Ooooo, "charged."

Your word, not mine. ;-)

And "the rules" become "this parliamentary maneuver."

Aren't they the same? Althought the "rules" were never meant for passing a massive bill...

From the Liberal Wash Post:

The tactic -- known as a "self-executing rule" or a "deem and pass" -- has been commonly used, although never to pass legislation as momentous as the $875 billion health-care bill

How-many-of the-39-other-times this "maneuver" was used were "charged" to the-side-that-happened-to-lose this time?

How many times was this "meneuver" used to pass a massive spending bill? Never.

As explained in junior high school Social Studies: There are no ties.

No, but as explained in high school.....there are consequences. ;-)

OK...ONE more hand, then I'm out...

I'm the only senior citizen here in Vegas who has-yet-to-call-it-a-night, so I'll make this quick.
ONE more hand, then I'm out.

Stop the tape.

You seem to have the advantage.
Clearly, I missed the name change.
When I lived there, it was still called "The Washington Post."
Heck, when I was there a couple weeks ago, they still called it "The Washington Post."

Or is this one of those "mainstream media" things?
Riddle-me-this: If radio's Limbaugh and Beck and cable's O'Reilly are top-rated, aren't THEY "mainstream media?"
Or are only the-dang-liberals "mainstream?'
Maybe it's generational.
I remember when the cool kids were Democrats, and Republican kids were like those waspy nerd frat boys in "Animal House."
What's the matter with kids today?

OK, re-start the tape...

As a former boss of mine used to say, "I'll answer your second question first."
LET'S HOPE there are consequences, after all THAT wrangling.
Even The Party of No said all-along that the status quo was broken.

RE "as explained in high school:"
'Not sure where YOU went to -- or taught -- high school.

But where I went-to -- and later taught -- high school, I can ASSURE you that the student body led The Consequence-Free Existance.

Then again, that was "Liberal Massachusetts."
Where Scott Brown just won.

In the words of Forrest Gump, "That's all I have to say about that."
Heck, one more back-and-forth, and they'll T.I.O. us.

But nobody leaves without a handsome parting gift. So for those looking-in FROM the massive NAB convention here in Vegas, Mike McVay and I invite you to a reception we're doing tomorrow (Wednesday) 5-7PM, in suite #24078 at the Flamingo. It's a meet-N-greet with Donny Osmond, now available middays from McVay Syndication. No RSVP necessary. Just c'mon by. We'll have a photog snapping grip-N-grins.

Now if I could only find out which suite MARIE is in...

Thankuhverymuch,

May I throw another bucket of gasoline on the fire?

Don't miss TONIGHT'S "Ed Show" on MSNBC.
Hit time 640PM ET.

Topic: Is the long-awaited FM Talk tsunami yonder?

Radio moved-closer to having-to-pay record labels to play music yesterday, when House Speaker Nancy Pelosi came-out in-favor.

Now THAT would be "a government bailout," of the mostly-foreign-owned major record labels.
Your consultant predicts that, quickly, MANY music FMs will flip-to-Talk.

Serendipitously, this conversation finds me in Cleveland, "The Home of Rock & Roll."

When I tug my ear lobe, I'll be waving to everyone in Rhody.
