Hollander On the Way Out at CBS

And now begins the argument famed in Big D, and echoing the greatness of Da' Boyz, "When are they going to hire a real radio guy?!"

Let's just put this in its place, C(ant) B(roadcast) S(???) radio wouldn't know a REAL radio guy in this market if he walked up to their office on 75 and said, "Hi, my name is Ron Chapman. What's yours?"

Um go to radiodailynews.com and read the story. Hollander WAS A RADIO GUY, AND Mooves wouldn't listen to him. Thats why he is going.

I've seen this reference to CBS now a couple of times. I assume this is meant to be a slap at CBS in the context of the sentence, but wouldn't a company that "can't broadcast sh*t" be a great radio company? If they "can't" broadcast something bad, wouldn't they be broadcasting good radio? If CBS is full of crap, wouldn't they be "can broadcast sh*t"?

how about Couldn't Broadcast Shows? Crud Broadcasting System? Cash Before Shows?
Can Broadcast Smegma? Canned Broadcasting System? Can't Be Smart?

How about instead of everyone being so creative with the CBS monikers, why not figure out what this means for CBS' future in Radio.

Moonves reportedly doesn't like CBS being in Radio. So... More sell-offs?

Why intelligently address an actual topic when you can impress the other 8th graders with puns and bad jokes? ::)

The thing is, if CBS does sell off some stations, is there a no-brainer of a buyer? ABC is out... with Clear Channel going private they're not going to have the stock flexibility to make deals like they have in the past (and are the private equity dudes going to come up with the millions/billions to buy CBS properties?)

Cumulus has 2 avenues- either the public Cumulus Radio, or the former Susquehanna "Cumulus Media", but same thing, will private equity step up with that much cash?

After that, aren't we basically left with a bunch of (to borrow some NCAA terminology) Mid-Majors? Do the Entercomms, Citadels, etc have enough big market experience to buy and run CBS? And do they have the money to do it?

Thank you for summing up with is wrong with radio: No creativity,no originality, anal retentiveness,no sense of humor, and and wearing a suit with a tie that is too tight thus cutting off the circulation to the cranium. I am sure an average 8th grader could program a station better than todays salesperson anyday. lighten up itty bitty little one.

I thought CBS stood for "Can't Buy S*it." Cheap company all the way around.

I just call'em like I see'em. And I see someone making jokes (and not that funny jokes at that) without really advancing the point of the thread...

And I notice that no one has stepped up and addressed the point I raised. If CBS does sell, is there a 'no-brainer' buyer?

(and by the way, if you're calling'em like you see em, you need to get glasses. I get paid to be creative and haven't worked sales a single day of my 20+ year radio career.)

and you haven't lightened up either. You may not have a humorous side as well. sheesh just skip the post. as far as "advancing the thread" ,don't prematurely" pat yourself on the back. You're still in neutral. Management, the clones march on.

That's true. Cheap and content with mediocrity.

No one's trying to finish first at CBS.

CBS is trying to finish first.

But in revenue not ratins.

And they are selling lite fm big time.

the old selling a refrigerator to an eskimo routine. CBS might as wel lput up a remax or century 21 shingle up. They are a bad landlord, the programming plumbing leaks and reaks.

They're losing both battles. Checked their stock prices recently? Always going down, down, down.

The one thing they claim to value more than anything else, the stock, is constantly losing value.

Housecleaning starts at the top,but Moonves isn't going anywhere. His TV network is doing fine. He has a disdain for radio, therfore the quick fix jack, frr, movin formats are ideas not well thought out, and he could care less. Its the real estate mentality.

So who is in the running to take Hollanders job?

Anyone have a suggestion for a replacement?

Will the cure be worse than the disease?

Will CBS sell out the radio group to another radio company? In time?

Not possible. Maybe to several?

Actually, time won't begin to move forward for these stations until CBS gets out of the the business.

...and so closes the non-sequitar conversation of "As the Stomach Turns".

> Will Little ever recapture that delightful sense of humor corporate radio stole from him so long ago?
> Do plummeting stocks truly result in better Arbitron ratings?
> Will a certain tower on 75 post a lovely Remax sign in the front lawn?
> And will the company EVER learn to really B(roadcast) S(#$t)?

These questions and many more to come. Thanks for playing one and all.
