Holly Haze - Do Your Own Research!

Mon., 8/31

K104.7s' "Top 12 @12"

Holly Haze - "Here's Rick Astley, a little guy w/a big voice, & "Never Gonna Give You Up", whose gotten a lot of You Tube hits lately - I don't know why, but maybe I should do some research on it".

Yeah, maybe you should!

Do you expect the listener to do the research?

Why even bring up the subject?

I think it was nice to remind the listener that they need to do some research if they want to know more about Rick Astley.
LISTENERS HAVE BEEN MOLLYCODDLED AND SPOONFED TOO LONG!

There was a certain level of drooliness coming through that post.
Maybe it was desire drool instead of just nutting up over minutiae.

To all my defenders...it's ok, silly amfmradiodouche loves picking on me. Thankfully, I have 4 brothers so I am used to his antics.
Just for sh*ts and giggles, I didn't tell the listener to research it, I said maybe I should. I only brought it up because it was the first thing that popped in to my head while the song intro played...I had JUST spotted something on Youtube about him. That's all. No biggie. Really, it's ok

Koodos to Holly. Just like carrying on a casual conversation with someone and NOT reading from a card or screen for a break and only for a few seconds over an intro, being natural and HUMAN, Isn't that what being HUMAN and relating to the listener is on LIVE radio? How easy it is for some to forget the basics...
Now don't get me wrong, I'm all for voice tracking, but not when it's nothing but "THAT WAS..." and "THIS IS..." and "HERE'S..."

Mad props to announcers who sound "real" sometimes. Whoever they might be.

I was real, made mistakes and everything! PD's don't like mistakes though. One told me he liked voice tracking because then every break could be perfect.

I saw a guy voicetrack his entire shift rather than do it live even though he was right there in the building at the time. He was a couple of hours ahead of what was on the air.

I dunno about a crush.
As detailed as the points are, could the originator of this thread be
David Hill from Belmont?

No, David loves me..we talk all the time ;)
As flattered as I am to have an entire post dedicated to one thing I said during an intro, it seems a bit ridiculous to waste the energy to even bring it up....whatever....next.

Yeah I'm sure that made sense to the PD. Lots of things seemed to make sense to some of them that boggled most people's minds.
If every break is "perfect," that makes a shift sound like "real life" and makes the announcer sound relatable to Joe SixPack, and like someone Joe might wanna listen to for more than "more musicmusicmusicmusicmusic." We all know real life is "perfect." ::)

Or maybe Joe would think up a drinking game to play while he listens to that dude's shift, or something else constructive to make chicken salad out of the chicken poo shift. :D

You know you love it!  Look we could be talking about John Boy & Billy, Ace & T.J. Catherine Lane or Paul Shadt instead Holly Haze is in the spotlight.

Hey how much are you paying this guy anyway?  (wink)

I hope you will remember us little people who also toiled for awhile playing the hits.

Mike, I also remember a guy doing that and riding the board for his own shift. Little did he know some "friends" went in while he was away and changed ALL the VT's. He was So scared of going live that he played the altered tracks. It was a Sunday morning gospel show. The guy did EVERYTHING on carts and played them on his only air shift at the station.

You Are Live on The Air!

I was never afraid of doing it live. It might be because I started out practicing in the production room so in my mind I'm just in the production room, I don't think of it as being on stage. Now if I have to stand up and speak in front of a large crowd, that's not something I enjoy although I have done it. I refused to do it at the last station I worked for and it probably cost me some brownie points. By that time I had developed a healthy ego or attitude. If I didn't want to do something I didn't do it.
