Holly Robinson Peete and Leah Remini Fired from "The Talk." Why?

I'm not a big watcher of "The Talk." But I find it odd that the powers that be at CBS have decided these two need to go to inject some better ratings for the struggling talk show.

Obviously Julie Chen (Mrs. Les Moonves, wife of CBS chief) would not be ousted. And likely Sara Gilbert would be safe since she sort of had the original concept for the program (even though it clearly is supposed to be like ABC's "The View" right down to the name).

So how did Peete and Remini get chosen to be shown the door?

As much as I loved Leah Remini in "King of Queens" I couldn't stand her in anything else. Which is odd as I loved her in that role. But everything else she's ever done from her days of "Living Dolls" to present I just dislike her. Perhaps I'm not the only one that feels that way :)

It's her voice. Her voice is just like nails on a blackboard to me for some reason.
Can't quite put my finger on why. Something about her voice does make her seem
unlikeable, though in real life she very well may not be.

Aside from that, looks like the ol' Salary Dump to me.
(CBS Corp used to be Westinghouse here in Pittsburgh, and we have seen them
do this sort of thing for many, many years)

They wanted to go in a different direction.
They wanted to spend more time with their family.
Creative differences.
Salary dump.
Set redesign.
Moonves has a mistress who needs a start.
Too many brown M&Ms problem was never rectified.
Constant comparisons to Babwa Waltas followed by an Elmer Fudd laugh just got to be too much.
Could be almost anything.

Making room for Roseanne Barr and Rosie O'Donnell!! Maybe even Lindsay Lohan!!

Would Roseanne Barr leave Hawaii though? Maybe OWN/Oprah would hire Holly Robinson Peete since I think Oprah and her were friends. Oprah used to have her on every year or every other year atleast. I'm surprised to see her not having her contract renewed on The Talk, but maybe it's CBS has someone else (someone bigger) in mind. I could care less though, and think The Talk is a ripoff anyways. It's very doubtful but I would like to see a King of Queens reunion for Leah. Maybe a movie (like SATC), ha, but doubtful. Kevin James is great on the big screen. He proved he can take dramatic scenes (though The Dilemma was a comedy, he wasn't just a goof in the movie).

The speculation on the TVWithoutPity board is that CBS is looking to upgrade the talent with experienced hosts or bigger-name celebs. The show began as a yawn-worthy mommy-fest (asking every D-level celebs about the challenges of raising their kids) and morphed to a View-like chit-chat about current events and hot pop culture topics. Like The View, they now spend at least half the show just chatting around their big oval table.

There have also been a few random tweets to the effect that :contracts have not been finalized: so it's possible this is all just public negotiating, silly hype, or both.

No matter what anyone says, to lose 4 of the 6 personalities that you started with is rough. And the only 2 that remain almost have to be there.

You know they're lying in wait for ABC to let one of their "Viewers" go... And that in and of itself would be the biggest household name of CBS' "View" clone - easily.

Talk (the generic word, not the show itself) does work in today's world. Even if this one incarnation needs some retooling, it's a far more profitable genre when the available audience has been splintered 500 ways.

Bring back either Guiding Light or As The World Turns, lol.

Sometimes reality just doesn't cut it in todays world....

Here's a better idea: Bring back more game shows!!! :D

I agree, but with the increased commercial time, there won't be much time for the game itself....

Now THAT sounds like Ratings Gold!! ;D

CBS clearly looks at the success "The View" has had and wants the same. The View is part news, part entertainment, the way Barbara Walters envisioned it. And it works, even if men aren't the target audience and just think it's a group of women trying to solve the world's problems with silly one-liners.

The View has lost panalists over the years, either because they leave for other projects (Merideth Viera moving to Today) or get ousted (Star Jones). But I don't think two View panalists were ever shown the door in a single season. Clearly Les Moonves is invested in this show, since his wife is one of the panalists, giving up her slot on the CBS Morning Show. But the ratings are no where near as good as The View. I've heard they're not as good as the soap opera that The Talk replaced.

By the way, Holly Robinson Peete was a guest presenter on The Price Is Right recently, along with Julie Chen, so they could promote The Talk. It was probably a rerun. But still, CBS was high enough on Peete to use her to promote The Talk on TPIR only a few months ago. It's a long way to tumble to be shown the door only months after you and Mrs. Moonves were on another CBS show to promote The View.

It's all on the QT.
Chen probably isn't observant enough to notice the new chippy.
She's got all the shows and whatever else she does for Moonves. ;D

I don't really watch THE TALK, but I read that there was a bit more cat scratching
on camera than they wanted. Now they can rotate some celebrity guests for maybe
6 months (and then pick some new talent from among them). Such an audition
process would surely liven up the place and keep the show from getting stale.

Overall, the show has exceeded CBS projections and expectations.
