As this was the day after the JFK assassination, how did the Hawaiian stations handle it, considering that they only got everything on film?

I'm going to take a wild guess and say that the TV networks transmitted the audio of their coverage (whether their TV networks or their sister radio networks) via shortwave radio relay to both Alaska and Hawaii and would be broadcast as the sound portion on TV in those states, along with slides of the late President and wirephoto pictures, interspersed with occasional in-studio commentary from local anchors.

Hopefully, someone "on the ground" in Hawaii will let us know how the local TV stations handled it.

...I believe, based upon previous discussions about the incident hereabouts, that you just described exactly what was going on among the Honolulu network affiliates that day. I believe the only exception would have been that audio of the ABC, NBC and CBS coverage would have been telephoned to KHVH-TV/4, KONA-TV/2 and KGMB-TV/9, respectively; I'd guess an occasional piece of audio could have been picked up from a Voice of America shortwave retransmission of AFRTS feeds, but I don't know exactly how that would have been handled. I do know that WRUL (later WNYW, now WYFR) New York was an ABC *and* CBS Radio affiliate - http://newstalgia.crooksandliars.com/gordonskene/november-22nd-started-any-other-day-19 contains an mp3 of WRUL's broadcast of the ABC Radio coverage feed from that first hour - but I'm not sure whether WRUL sent a strong-enough signal to the Pacific for use by 2, 4 or 9. As far as whatever KTRG-TV/13 did, I'll venture a guess and say that they rebroadcast one or more of the network affiliates from an OTA signal; that's what KPHO-TV/5 Phoenix (independent), KAET-TV/8 Phoenix (NET) and KTVT/11 Fort Worth (independent) did, retransmitting the NBC and local coverage from KTAR-TV/12 Mesa and WBAP-TV/5 Fort Worth, respectively...

They were the syndicated film package that was distributed by Screen Gems, billed as the "Vampira Shock Theater" series. The Honolulu version might have used a local version of Vampira that was licensed from Nurmi.

"Coincidental" is part of the definition of "Ironic". It was coincidence re the timing of the movie. It was ironic that Kennedy had been characterized as "the new Lincoln" in some areas. We're basically saying the same thing.

How come there doesn't appear to be any news programming scheduled anywhere? I realize that there was no link with the mainland, but surely one would have expected to see some regularly scheduled local newscasts, even on a Saturday -- or am I missing something?

No you're not missing anything. Saturday newscasts did not start until around 1964 on KTRG, followed in 1965 with KHVH.
