Hoosiers/TV Land HiJinks

TV Land is doing its usual masterful job of trashing an excellent movie. The lead up to Hoosiers over the past week with the weirdo loopy couple Dagmar and Dufus was bad enough. Now, during the movie the couple is dancing around in the lower left portion of the screen with the amazing proclamation "You're watching Hoosiers." Nice to know TV Land employs the programmatically challenged.

Glad your friend was able to let it all out. I must confess to entertaining the taking of similar action but thought better of it. Admittedly, TV Land's poor choice of such material is maddening and sufficient to incite volatile responses such as you witnessed in the break room. Quite obviously the TVL production and promotion people think their creations are cute and something more than revolutionary. Not exactly. They ARE, however, grotesque and a step below nauseating. The constant repetition of pronouncing "Hoosiers" as "whose-eee-uhrs" proved to be the straw that broke the camel's back. How will they butcher the next movie? TV Land has put the term "schlock and awe" in viewers' vocabulary.

The Friday Night Movie Show is a great idea by TV Land, BUT the couple hosting simply doesn't fit, which makes them 100 times more annoying than what they are. Granted, they have that retro, 'ABBA' feel to them, but the decade they represent (the 1970s disco-era) doesn't fit the movies they're featuring on TV Land.

It would seem more logical to have a group of valley girls hosting the movie show in slumber party garb. Yes, the annoyance factor would remain somewhat the same, but at least they'd be representing the decade when 99.9% of all the movies featured were made and would make the show just a shade easier to watch.

Right on target. It does seem that TV Land is given to making somewhat lamentable choices in such matters as Hansel and Grettel hostingf the Friday movie. Thought: they borrow two hosts from other cable channels and have Hannity and Greta do the honors. No, on second thought, not the thing to do. In her usual fashion Greta would say, "Will the movie continue? Is there more to be seen? Stay tuned and we'll also check in with Aruba." Or O'Reilly and Cosby, aka Bill and the Pill. Otherwise, the val gal approach would certainly be irritating, considering the extremes to whichTVL carries such things. However, as you say, it possibly would BE a better fit since many viewers--myself included--seem to be HAVING a fit over the Hossiers debacle.

I have somewhat of a question. Why is TV Land showing movies which have very little or nothing to do with classic TV? If TV Land wants to show movies, show some reunion movies like "The Brady Girls Get Married" or the two reunion movies of Eight Is Enough among others which have a LOT to do with classic TV.

The same holds true with CMT. What on earth and why are they showing "Overboard" with Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell which basically has nothing to do with country music? Show "Coal Miner's Daughter","Sweet Dreams",even "Nashville",but stop showing movies that have nothing to do with country music.

Almost as bad as WE showing that legendary female-oriented movie "Back to the Future", although I suppose every cable channel has to show "Back to the Future" at least once a year.

Just another example of moving cable channels away from their original purpose in favor of lowest-common-denominator programming.
