K-Roq is the best alt. station I've ever heard. Does anyone here think it will last forever? It is my favorite one out of any other alternative rocker, except if WLUM was still New Rock 102-1 and was the same back in the 90s, well then it wouldn't be. Does McKay still work at the station or if not, where did he go to?

I think the alt format of KROQ is safe for quite a long while to come but personally, the station was at it's peak best in the mid to late 80's through early 90's.

As long as they make money they shouldn't go away...if you're an alt fan, the station to worry about is Live 105, but they're in SF....
If CBS plans on keeping The Wave, I'm sure they plan on keeping KROQ. I'm sure they're still making some good money, and the station produces way more than it's value. The signal is weak to its sister stations but still produces good ratings, even in areas like Orange County where the signal isn't so hot. They probably still make very good money as well, the only thing in the way is 98-7. Back at the beginning of the decade, KROQ would stand at the #1 place in the diary, but this was defeated eventually after time when Star 98.7 started playing more alternative in their "Hot AC" playlist.

Well we aren't even certain that CBS will keep The Wave around for very long. I remember someone mentioning on this board that KROQ had a signal increase or something like that, right?radiojomo said:

You should also check out Channel 92.3 in San Jose (KSJO). They've done a good job of breaking some new bands and playing some out-of-the-way stuff too.

98-7 FM should sound like Channel 92.3 or their sister station WRFF "Radio 104.5" in Philly.

KROQ is not that great at all. They were good a loooong time ago, but many alt. stations across the U.S. are far superior than KROQ now. KNDD(Seattle), KXTE(Las Vegas) and WFNX(Boston) to name a few, are all far better at the alt. rock format in my opinion. Someone needs to bring back an active rocker to the L.A. airwaves!

KROQ will NEVER change format! They are fine, even if they are ranked 20th, they will be fine! That station is a ca$h cow!
KROQ is all about the attitutde. The jocks share the attitude, they know their audience and they know how to deliver relatable content. Even when alternative has gone through music slumps, even when there is very little new alt music to promote, KROQ manages to make their presentation enjoyable. I chalk it up to the programming genius of Kevin Weatherly, a man who was able to create a rhythmic heavy CHR in an minority majority market into a top 4 demographic station with all middle aged white jocks. The man clearly knows what he is doing.

I Love Channel and it looks like Live 105's future is unknowing.
However, KROQ is one of those stations that bills VERY well. They bill 60 Million a year, and for a while they were the highest billing radio station in the country. I agree, their peak time has passed... but they still do very very well.
