Hope Pulse 87 expands it's playlist beyond 13 songs

I’m glad that a dance leaning Rhythmic is finally here in the New York City area, but it's time for Pulse 87 to expand its playlist. I understand Joel S. and the crew wanting to keep the music super familiar because they want to keep the KTU and Z-100 crowd coming, but enough of the same 13 songs over and over.

Justin & Beyonce (remix),Rhianna,David Guetta,Sean Kingston,Mary J Blige and few others 8,518 times.

Also, Tony Santiago, do you think Pulse 87 is playing all the styles of dance music that New Yorkers like? You know, the way the old Hot 97 did.

Hmm...don't get me wrong but I somewhat agree with Jerseydude, a bit. I LOVE the new Pulse but they are just a bit repetitive so far with some of the songs they are playing. HOWEVER, I'm a firm believe ALSO that they ARE a new station and are still feeling their way around. I'm sure in a month, it will sound a lot more varied in music than now. I mean their first real DJ is starting tomorrow so that's a change right there. The station is a baby still...give it some time...now if in a month from now they are still playing the same music then let's make some noise about it!! lol... ;D

I have to turn Pulse 87 off for a weeks. The repetition is driving me crazy. Just until a few news songs are added to the playlist.

hey, not to change your mind, but they are definitely NOT just playing 13 songs dude, ALTHOUGH they do repeat certain songs a bit too much, but what station doesnt? lol, check out the current and new titles they ARE playing... this is from my own research btw... also I didn't want to put down all the names of the artists in full cause i don't know how to spell some of them , lol...doesn't seem too bad to me for a station just starting :) ... mind you this doesn't count all the remixes of stuff they play and some other new songs i just heard today :) ... not bad!! ;)

The Pulse Playlist shows 40 currents in rotation. That doesn't include songs that they may be testing. Their powers are rotating about every 2 and a half hours. That's a solid rotation for a Hit based station, Dance or not. I think they are doing a great job.

As for the missing artists from the list above, let me help:

I want your soul – Armand Van Helden
Anthem – Filo and Peri
Rise up – Yves LaRock
Destination unknown - Alex Gaudino
Stars – Erika Jayne
Again – Kim Leoni
Heater – Samim

Now go out and support this station and these artists!!! :)

I've also heard Everybody Dance- Deborah Cox (tony moran remix)

They seem to be adding songs to the playlist as well...I heard some additional recurrents today, including some stuff that I last heard on the radio back when 92.7 WLIR had its 'LIR After Hours program.

They are definitely playing more music now than they were last week, and it sounds great!

It's like everyone has said and me, ad nauseum.....give the station some time! Jewelz has just been hired as MD...let's give her some time to work on new adds. I threw in my "two cents" on some and hopefully they will get heard.

As of now with today's generation, I think Pulse is covering the majority of dance music styles out there. I think in time, there may be a rebirth of freestyle....a NEW generation of it, not the same 80's and early 90's stuff heard on Pulse and 'KTU. There could be some house tracks...but then again, maybe a specialty underground show similar to what Jeannie Hopper is doing with Liquid Sound Lounge. Electro is covered....Ida Corr "Let Me Think About It". Filo & Peri's "Anthem" has the trance feel. I am STILL jonesing on that Mary J. Blige remix of "Just Fine". Drum and Bass is TOO underground though there is a core fan base for it....albeit rather small for NYC but if they ever did such a show, I'm all for it. Could a "Solid State" style show, a la DJ Todd work on Pulse? Generally speaking yes...for those that are into the dance mashups.

I don't know if you see me on other boards but I have YET to register a gripe on Pulse 87. The station has gotten off to a fantastic start. And if Pulse HAD to play the same 13 songs, I'd rather hear what they are offering than 'KTU's repetitive 5..

"I Will Survive"
"Night Fever"
"Staying Alive"
"Hot Stuff"
"Mac Arthur Park"

CHR Radio is not what it was 20 not even 10 yrs ago. There are aso manyalternatives to just hearing a local radio station or even one thats online. It used to be that you could go 8 hours without hearing a hit record twice on a station but radio had no outside competition for music choices. I personally listen to any station about two hours max. The only thing that draws me in longer are specialty shows or personalities. I think this is where radio should concentrate more effort into.

Morpheux,

I agree with you 100%. There is only so much Beyonce and Rhianna that a person can take.

Hey, I like Mac Arthur's Park..... I sing along when it's on KTU every other hour... ;)

Oh, Tony, gotta add to the KTU's Top 10 Songs That Have Died, Been Revived and Beaten to Death Again List...

Yvonne Elliman's If I Can't Have You.

ADDED!!! For that matter another Bee Gees classic...."You Should Be Dancing" and "It Takes Two" by Seduction.

The only time I hear repetition like that on KTU is when I listen online and they use the same 4-5 songs to play while commercials are over the air... There is no more repetition on KTU than Pulse and I've been listening to both a lot recently.

Tony,
Please add all of the Bee Gee's songs to that list... While we're at it, add Kim Wilde's "You Keep Me Hanging On" too!!

The difference is...what is being repeated. Pulse is playing new hit songs every 2.5 hours or so. It's safe to assume, however, that they will be cycling new songs in and out of rotation.

KTU, on the other hand, seems to have been playing the same old hit songs every 2.5 hours or so for years now. A recent check of yes.com had them playing Donna Summer 5 times in a 13 hour period. And it's been the same Donna Summer songs ever since KTU came on the air in 1996. Talk about played out.

In contrast, Pulse's recurrents are at about 1 per hour, and I haven't heard the same one twice yet.

I knew sooner or later people will be like this, sick of the station already, That is where I am also at with energy 92.7

And sfradio, I find that TOTALLY disgusting that people ARE going to get "burnt out" like this....AND IT'S BEEN ONLY JUST OVER TWO FRIGGIN WEEKS!!!

What part of GIVE THE STATION SOME TIME are people NOT getting!?!? Star and Buc Wild have been on a week, Jewelz just started out this week...and I WILL BREAK THIS INFO OUT from a source....2 MORE on-air personalities will begin on MONDAY!

New adds? Well Mischa Daniels' "Round And Round" is getting airplay. I'm sure more tracks will be "dropped" onto Pulse 87 soon enough. You GOTTA GIVE THEM TIME!!!! Take it from me, a person that was impatient about 'KTU since DAY 1 (and for right reasons since they NEVER did enough with current dance). Here is a station that I think is doing everything RIGHT, a station that in a way gives the "finger" to corporate radio for trying something edgy and different.

What I'm basically trying to say here to dance fans is.....SUPPORT THIS STATION!!! I'm pushing for clubs and other businesses to start advertising. Or does hearing "Mac Arthur Park" or "Total Eclipse Of The Heart" for the 93,445th time by Nikki French tickle your fancies???

WE CANNOT HAVE ANOTHER 'KTU TYPE STATION AGAIN. I think we've suffered enough, don't you? :)

So please...as the subway conductor would say as the train is stuck mid-tunnel....PLEASE BE PATIENT!

We can only hope & pray that the pulse never goes the route of !Freestyle & Classic Disco!! New York Needs a real dance station, doesn't anybody remember when KTU debuted. They played real dance music, but unfortunately they lost there way, and then refused to grow with the ever changing sound of dance music.

Example: Real dance stations have been around in the U.K., Canada & Overseas for years way before KTU & The Pulse. Maybe they have learn something from them !!!

So we will wait and see before giving up!!!
