Horrible bit on H-100

As Howard was going to commercial, they played a short bit about 2 LDS Missionaries going to an older lady's home with her verbally thrashing them and their message. I've been there done that and have had that happen to me personally. I failed to see any comedic value in that "bit". I'm not here to preach about my beliefs and faith, but now i have one less reason to even own Sirius. I never was a huge fan of Stern but I found his show fun to listen to. I love to listen to entertaining talk on my morning commute now I am relegated to local radio with its 20+ minutes of spots an hour.

I just wanted to share my grief with you all and am not expecting any further responses. Thanks for your time.

I heard that bit, and I was rolling in the floor laughing. I loved it and AGREED 100% with it. I DETEST having these people come "hawking" on my doorstep and interrupting me. I totally support doing anything to "shock" and "mortify" them in any way. If it will help them to get the point and "get lost" any sooner, I'm all for it. And the fact that it was coming from what at first sounded like a "sweet old lady", just made it that much funnier. Howard has made it clear about what he thinks about the right wing religious fanatics, and if you don't agree or care for that attitude, then you'd be best not listening to his show, because he pulls no punches and makes no bones about it.

Anyway, go ahead and be offended by me if you wish, but I look at it this way; If I want to be contacted, or "bothered" and "harrased" as I view it, I would contact someone or "ask" someone to come. My house is my own personal property and these people have ZERO rights to bother me and annoy me on my own property if they are not invited. This goes for door to door salesmen, religious kooks, survey takers, etc. etc. If someone invites or asks for information, that is great, and I have no problem with that at all; but you have no right to barge onto my property and bother me, and then not leave when first asked to. PERIOD. So yeah, I laughed my ass off at that bit and couldn't agree more.

Was it something they had recorded or was actually a clip from the "Orgazmo" movie that had the guys from South Park in it? At the beginning of the movie they are Mormon missionaries and get cussed out by an elderly woman after knocking on her door.

I am LDS too and I have to agree with Timmy. For goodness' sake, people, this is a RADIO board. We are not here for religion bashing! So please, just stop. I am not here to preach either, but please have a little bit of respect.

I have never heard Howard Stern and I have never really wanted to listen to him. However, this just gives me one more reason not to listen...

Timmy,

If you find Howard entertaining most of the time and this one bit hits too close to home and is offensive, is it going to turn you off to the whole show? The show's an equal opportunity offender, so there's going to be something to offend everyone. I don't find anything funny about cancer, so I have never liked Joe Cancer, the Scott will get cancer jokes or Sal's remarks about Tom's cancer. However, on a whole, the Stern show is great radio. I didn't subscribe to Sirius for Stern; terrestrial radio was enough of a reason for me to subscribe. I would be punishing myself and no one else if I didn't listen because there are a few jokes I don't like.

Don't take the bit personally.

If that one bit offended you it makes me wonder two things:

1) How did you listen to Howard for so long to have THAT bit offend you NOW

and

2) Why did that particular bit offend you so deeply yet laughing at or with all his other vicious bits over the last 20+ years was ok with you? Like a previous post mentioned, Stern tries to be an equal opportunity offender. Howard has railed against religion as a whole on his show for as far back as I've listened. He has trashed religion on NUMEROUS occasions. You let the fact that his bit picked YOUR religion as the brunt of the joke hit you too deeply. If you were going to get upset at him for that, then you should have been driven away by his rantings and trashings of Judaism and Christianity as a whole and individualy that I heard him do throughout the 90s. Would you have been as offended if the bit used travelling Rabbis, priests, or Buddhist monks? If yes, then you're at least being consistent. If not and it made you even CHUCKLE, you're being too personal and a tad hypocritical. Lighten up and take it for what it was, a bit.

No offense JM, but most of the people that rallied against Howard never listened to him. They took all of what they hated about him second hand and through word-of-mouth. Although I haven't listened to him for years, I stopped because he became boring, bitter and an outright egomaniacal, boastful liar. Granted his sense of humor may not be your cup of tea, but I stopped listening to him after giving him a try. If you listen to him for a couple days and find him unfunny or repusive, you walk away saying he stinks and what YOU heard was obsene and offensive to your likes. You're running away from a show for .01% of the entire material. Give him a shot. Then when you argue your dislike for him, no pro-Howard listener can counter your argument.

Fisticuffs against Howard turn into handcuffs when one side of the argument is nothing but heresay and half-truths

First of all, it sounds like it was a clip from a movie, not a Howard-produced bit. Second, Howard has had Mormons on his show recently, and they haven't had a problem with him...despite ongoing questions about their "magic underwear." They had Donny Osmond a while ago, Rick Schroeder last year, and most recently Shawn King (Larry King's wife).

Thanks, Peter. I appreciate your standpoint. I do feel deeply about the Church to which I belong. I can say honestly that I found most everything about Howard Stern quite entertaining. I honestly have not been a listener for too long and my commute to work is roughly 12 minutes. So while I am not horribly attached to his show, I can be mad when he sticks it to something in my life that is quite powerful and decide to vent on a board and then decide to no longer listen.

You are all probably thinking "he will listen again soon enough" and I would probably nod sheepishly in agreement.

I'm not thrilled at all with terrestrial radio any longer. I'd love to see Prime Country or Big 80's have a typical morning show with calls and bits and features a la terrestrial. The commercials kill me on FM Radio.

I will take all of your advice into consideration and wish my best to those who have crapped on me above.

Thanks all!

No offense taken at all, sir.

To tell you the truth, I do not have Sirius...or XM, for that matter. I do love terrestrial radio and I don't think that I'll ever stop listening to it, but the diversity of satellite radio is interesting. For now, I'll need to settle for the XM on DirecTV. I'm hoping that that will change come Christmastime or my birthday, though. In any case, I'll have to wait to give Howard a chance until his show is streaming or something. I am completely open to doing so.

I wasn't bashing religion in general, but I WAS bashing people who feel they have to come to your door and be "intrusive" about it and "force" it down people's throats. I would NEVER have any use for a religion that has that view. I have nothing against religion, but I feel that it should be up to a person to choose if he wishes to be contacted or if he wishes to go attend a church or an organization. But religions that feel it is their "mission" to go out and "force" it on everyone are very annoying and would never be of any interest to me at all. MAJOR turnoff!

Same thing with all the religious groups that want to force their beliefs and "rules" on others. Whether it be abortion, or censorship, or whatever. If you don't believe in abortion then don't have one; If something offends you, then don't watch it; etc. etc. But you have ZERO rights to force me to cowtow to your "rules" and beliefs. I should be able to do whatever I want with my body and watch or hear whatever is acceptable to me. Needless to say, I am VERY much a liberal, and PROUD of it. Religion in general doesn't offend me at all, and if you want to live by a set of "rules" then that's great. Just don't shove them down my throat and try to make everyone else adhere to "your" rules.

In Timmy's defense, I guess one thing that can be said is that I assume he is a listener in the Seattle market (go Seahawks), and Howard was on locally only from May, 2001 to December, 2005. It was an interesting time to listen, but we were not privy to much of his act. And considering the commercial breaks, in a twelve-minute commute (that's really good for Seattle) there was a lot of his show he had no chance to hear. To say the least, Sirius has allowed his act to be much more accessable.

Did South Park inspire that bit, or was it vice versa? You know Howard will insist that they stole it from him. Oh my god, Howard killed Timmy! You Bastard!!! (I just wanted to say that.)

One tiny bit made you not want to own Sirius???? That's the most rediculous thing I've ever heard!
