Host change at syndie Family Feud

> John O'Hurley replaces Richard Karn this fall.
> Press release

I thought that Richard Karn was a great host on the show. I wonder why Richard Karn got the heave-ho,certainly not because of age,John O'Hurley is about 10-15 years older than Richard Karn is. Hope that this turns out the way it goes. Sounds like Family Feud may be on its last legs.

John O'Hurley tried to revive To Tell The Truth in 2000 but only lasted a season and a half on that show. Any time you get used to a host on a show they always get replaced.

I'm a big fan of Feud, and I do watch the classic episodes on GSN whenever I'm home during the day off. However, I admit I barely watched this version of Feud since Karn took over for Louie Anderson. I had no problem with Karn's hosting style, but more so how he handled the contestants. The contestants became more and more annoying, as it seemed like. I'm just really surprised that Karn got the boot, especially when they already announced it would be renewed. This current version begins its 8th season, which will be one behind the length of the Richard Dawson version.

I actually liked the recent version of TTTT, it looked to a well-excuted game show, but Paula Pondstone's mess certainly didn't helped matters, and the show was subsequently cancelled a season later.

John O'Hurley is hot right now thanks to Dancing With The Stars, but Richard Karn raised the ratings...so who knows.

Louie "nasal-nosed" Anderson was and still is my least favorite Family Feud host. Richard Dawson,Ray Combs and Richard Karn are my favorite Feud hosts especially Dawson and Combs. All 3 seem to have more pep and energy to host these shows than Louie ever did.

Having been said,I keep thinking of why Richard Karn would have been dropped from Family Feud. He is still seen in reruns on Home Improvement as Tim Allen's sidekick so basically he is recognizable as Richard Dawson was when people remembered him as Newkirk on Hogan's Heroes and on Match Game from the 70's.

I imagine John O'Hurley's name popped up because of Dancing With The Stars and the Seinfeld connection of being Elaine's boss on there. Maybe,I could be wrong, but I have a feeling that Family Feud might be on its last legs.

According to IMDB, Karn is eight months *older* than O'Hurley. Just goes to show how premature grey can age a person...

I wasn't a fan of Louie Anderson either, even though I will give him props for having the show's producers up the Fast Money prize to $20,000 and played an important role in setting up the Firemen-Policemen specials after the 9/11 tragedy. Louie even admitted himself that he really wasn't into the hosting role until around his 3rd year, but by then, it was too little, too late. I also disliked the set design during Louie's reign as host, even though I didn't expect them to totally re-create the Dawson and/or Combs sets. The set re-vamp when Karn too over as host was much better.

And that's kinda of the stigma that Karn will always have, he'll always be Al Borland to sitcom fans, not necessarily the newest host of one of the best-known game show franchises in television history. With Dawson and Combs, at least they made the Feud their own shows, Karn just didn't have that presence, in my opinion.

I agree with that, after all, he's a familiar face (especially to the Fremantle people), and I do feel optimistic that O'Hurley would make a fine host of Family Feud.

That's what you call a mixed bag. To be sure, John O'Hurley will do a killer job--he was outstanding on the To Tell The Truth revival. But at the same time, he's replacing someone who's done an equally outstanding job. Louie Anderson seemed to be a bad fit, but Richard Karn brough a great deal of genuine charm to the show, and had an easy rapport with the families.

As for a new set--it's pretty much been getting tweaks every year since coming back. Maybe this time it will be an extreme makeover or sorts, though there's only so much you can do with the game being what it is.

In any event, it's great to have a game show continuing on the air.

O'Hurley has come a long way from being cast...then killed off as Crickets father on the CBS daytime sudser "The Young and The Restless".... Good for him.

John who?

Richard Karn was doing a good job. I'd much rather have Richard Dawson, but anybody beats Louie Anderson.<P ID="signature">______________

Host change question

I liked Richard Karn as the host of Family feud.
I hope he doesn't see this as being the end of his game show hosting career.

DOES this mean he is now available for another game show right now...or is there a no compete clause on him?

If there's a new gameshow, or an old one being restored, I recommend Richard Karn to be the host.

Read Between The Lines: Richard Karn Was Axed

Note that the Fremantle Media press release did not mention the name Richard Karn, which leads me to think he was fired.

If Karn had left on his own accord, his name would have been included in the press release, and the press release may have even included a quote from Karn along the lines of: "The producers of 'Feud' wanted me to stay, but I feel it's time to move on and try something new. I'd like to thank everyone at Fremantle for the wonderful years I spent working on 'Feud', and I know John O'Hurley is going to do a fantastic job as the new host. I wish him all the best".

On the other hand, although I thought Paula Poundstone ruined the most recent version of "To Tell The Truth", I feel O'Hurley did an excellent job as host and would likely be able to embark on a new career as a game show host.

> John who?

IIRC, he played J. Pederman(Elaine's boss) on "Seinfeld".

"Name a ubiquitous Radio-Info.com poster who drives users nuts with his nonstop speculation, mindreading, and wacko guessing."

"Joseph Gallant?"

"Good answer!"

Leave him alone! He's still one of the best fact finders...so what if he's also the best speculator, at least he reads facts first, and doesn't just assume the "what if..." out of thin air right from the starting gate.

He didn't just out of the blue say "hmmm...how can a game show be better"
I'm willing to bet he knew this info, but someone beat him to the posting.

True. But at least this time the speculation was about something that DIDN'T happen instead of what was "expected" to happen--a change of pace, invented quote and all.

Whatever did or didn't go down, the lack of a quote from the departing host isn't a sign one way or another. In many amicable partings, it's still done without referencing the departee.
