Host Reaction Fail

Everyone’s had the random contest where the caller is less than enthused about winning. We amp them up, record, edit, make them say the phrase that pays again. We feign excitement for the sake of the on-air presentation.

One local personality who I won’t name seems to express frustration each time a prize is given away. (My guess is these are client-donated prizes)

Example:
Designated caller gives correct answer. Host says something like: “well …uh, ...that's not what I...... (sigh) .........alright, we’ll let you win.”

That's what goes on the air ??? Same thing for weeks – months. Really sounds like the host wanted to pocket the prize OR the contest was rigged and the *wrong* caller won. Not making accusations, but that is how it comes off. Hard to believe the PD doesn’t correct this.

pretty simple; the bit this person tried to execute failed and didn't come off the way the 'host' wanted it too...............it's tough when you rely on your listeners to provide your comedy; if you're not funny, don't try to be.........oh by the way i don't think this person answers to a PD; more like an OM

Contest reactions always worked better in a younger demo - remembering when top 40 stations like WAEB in the '60's would give away an album & the winners would scream & whoop it up on the air - now I hear stations like WOGL give away a Carribean cruise & the callers have the monotone "that's great, thanks" reaction as Harvey Holiday tries to pump them up a bit!

Where I work we don't air winners' reactions unless they sound great. There's nothing wrong with simply announcing the winner and teasing the next contest.

We live in a jaded and troubled society. The troubles all around have sucked the life out of us. Most people are zombies who watch sports and play on fb. It's over!
