Hosts can't work a full shift?

After abandoning national news like CNN (Robin Meade laughs too much) and Fox & Friends (does Dick Cheney and Karl Rove write the show and book the guests?), I finally started watching local news. I am currently switching between ABC15 and New Channel 3. I have noticed that on 3, Tara Hitchcock doesn't come on until 6:00, an hour after the program begins. Same thing with Tracy Kornet on 15. With Tracy, she could be prepping for Sonoran Living. Tara could claim that she is still on from 6-9. I saw both need to be on their shows at 5:00 am.

Up until June 1st, Tara worked the 5-9am GMAZ shift. Marty Velasco Haymes would come in for the last hour or so of GMAZ and then she did the 11am-12noon Good Day Arizona (GDAZ) show with Scott Pasmore. It was reported that when Tara renegotiated her new contract, in place of a raise, she opted for additional time off and a change in her work hours (you may remember that she got married almost a year ago and has stepchildren). Marty now works 5-9 so she can be off earlier to be with her daughter and Tara does 6-9am on GMAZ and the hour on GDAZ.

Channel 3 has 4 hours of am local news. It makes sense to have some "fresh" blood during the program.

However, 15's news is only 2 hours AFAIK. Therefore, I agree that you would think that everyone would be on during the 5am hour.

Thanks for clearing up the Tara-contract reason, but in my opinion, if Tara is the main host (that is how Channel 3 promotes it) she should be on all 4 hours.

The other thing that happens when Tara comes in at 6 is repetition. Between 5 and 6, the hosts discuss a number of things, sometimes personal matters (Scott...how was your race this weekend), or talk with Tim and Willy/Beth and Bill about what is happening on the radio today. Tara comes in and the same questions and chit-chat starts over again.
