Hot 102 Puerto Rico - Why Isn't It On The CHR/Pop Panel?

Looking at Mediabase's Spanish Contemporary panel we come across several stations that may be better suited, or suited just as well, over on the CHR/Pop chart.
The best example is WIAC Hot 102 (formerly Toca De To) from San Juan

Now that's what I call a Dance-leaning Top 40! At least they're well balanced and more progressive than any of the Clear Channel, Cumulus, Entercom or CBS Top 40s. If there was a reason that may prevent it from moving over to the CHR/Pop panel it might be due to the radio stations in Puerto Rico broadcasting in Spanish, which is also the Commonwealth's primary language. However, BDS did allow WMEG to be part of the Rhythmic Top 40 panel at one time, so anything is possible.

WTOK (formerly WIAC-FM) flipped to Top 40 on July 4, 2011. They were the former "Toca De To" and had a Spansh Contemporary format.
 
Part of the problem might be Duck Sauce is their most played record. I can't take a station seriously that powers that.

Why not? The song was a huge radio hit in Europe, as well as in a number of Latin American countries.
It's also still getting some airplay on 104.3 Hit FM El Paso
 
Looking at their playlist it seems they are taking chances on quite a few songs that most other stations won't give the day of light. That's what's wrong with radio these days.Programmers wait to see what KIIS or Z100 is adding on before they take a chance on new music.

CHRles got a point there. Its getting a lot of attention from the Vitamin Water commercial and its use in the "Glee" episode "Born This Way." Even Downtown Records (which happens to distribute Duck Sauce member A-Trak's Fool's Gold label) is trying to work the single to Mainstream and Rhythmic radio.

I guess that might be the problem - it tests well with non-English speaking listeners, so there might be some reluctance to count Puerto Rico in with the rest of the U. S. CHR audience, since the demographic is just so incredibly different

(I'm not saying they shouldn't do it - just offering a possible explanation for what's going on)
 
Honolulu is pretty unique too, as is Miami, or El Paso for that matter.

Mix 107.9 Mcallen is on the CHR/Pop panel, and these are its Top 50 songs. What other CHRs are playing Qwote or Don Omar?

In this country, that record has little appeal to anyone over 18.

People under 18 aren't buying what advertisers are selling.
 
How do you know who this record appeals to? It was getting some airplay on the Bay area CHRs a little while back.

Besides, Puerto Rico may not be a US state, but it is a US territory. Not to mention the fact that Puerto Rican stations are being monitored on Mediabase on panels that also include stations from places like Miami, L.A., New York, Houston, and Washington. Last time I checked those cities are in the US.

There's more to America than just New London and Williamantic, Connecticut.

Ironically, after looking at that playlist, seeing that Duck Sauce had the #1 song, and deciding that I had to check out the station, I started typing in "wiac" on my Droid's TuneIn app. As I was typing, Autocorrect suggested the word "quack" :D

They've placed Hot 102 San Juan on the RHYTHMIC panel? The number 2 song at the station is from the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Number is Demi Lovato, Foster The People at 6, Coldplay at 11, Foo Fighters at number 15, and Paramore at 19. Why is this station on the wrong panel???
