Hot 1021 back on Web

They have a new site (thanks to VARTV for telling us that), so are they coming out of their problems?

Is HOT to stay for a long time ?

THey are still an AWESOME Urban station and I like them over 103 Jamz. And now i can hear them on the web again ...yay

But the real question is will they ever be able to do something w. the ratings. It is sad to c this great station go to waste.

Could it be possible for them to buy Norfolk State's Hot 91.1 and move to 91.1 with NSU moving to 102.1 or another dial??? (of course change the name of NSU's station to 1021 the BEAT or Power 102, causing having to HOT's is already confusing.

OR could they ask the FCC to move to 102.3, 101.9 or another dial so they become a full market station?

This station will not die will it? What the http://Hell.com is going on with it!

Nope. 91.1 is a non-commercial/educational frequency. Unless they were willing to go non-commercial, this is definitely not going to happen.

101.9 and 102.3 could be a problem, there is WPTM 102.3 in Roanoke Rapids,
http://radio-locator.com/pats/WPTM_FM_LU.gif
and WLQM 101.7 in Franklin. http://radio-locator.com/pats/WLQM_FM_LU.gif

Maybe they could move to 103.5 or 103.9, or somehow find a new station to simulcast with, 106.1 might work if HOT owned it. Other then that, theres no other place to start a new full-power station.<P ID="signature">______________

One thing Hot might be able to do is move their transmitter west, maybe to the Driver area of Suffolk, fire more power towards the east and northeast to cover most of the Seven Cities, then have a very sharp null towards the northwest/west to protect WRXL. Unfortunately, I don't think Clear Channel Richmond would think too much of that--and doesn't CC also own 103 Jams? OTOH, I can think of several B FMs being similarly shortspaced, such as WHTZ NYC and WPLY Phillie. Another possibility would be for Hot to add one or more on channel boosters, perhaps in Portsmouth and Newport News. But I don't know if that will work where the terrain is very flat. Still, if On TOp had the money they could probably work something out...

There is a 107.3 in Richmond (like a 102.1 in Richmond) but the 107.3 singal does not come as close to W'burg as 102.1. 107.3 dies somewhere in New Kent, where 102.1 dies right at the city limits of Williamsburg.

Surely you know that commercial stations are not allowed below 92 mhz.
I'd prefer to hear WRXL 102.1. Tidewater doesn't need another urban station.

I like hot, but they need to be on a stronger stick before they can go head to head with 103 jamz, as far as getting on a better stick, they are pretty much stuck with what they got

Besides a stronger stick, I think is also going to have to step up their game up a bit in the programming and promotions department. While they are not all that bad, I think that one of the other reasons that 103 Jamz is beating them is that 103 sounds a bit more polished and their announcers a bit more professional. Hot sounds more like a "hood" station and that will only get you so much of the audience. It's ok to want to be "the hip hop station" but I think that all of us who learned "Radio 101" will agree that trying to sound street and hood and not remembering the basics will only take you so far. And as far as promtions, although CC's "100th nation wide caller" contest is crap, if they are giving away big money and the competiton is giving away gift certificates that's a little hard to compete with. Hopefully on Top can get their finances in order and step that up. Other than that the music is on point!!
