HOT 1029 a little too HOT?

With PD Ryan Drake taking over, has anyone else noticed the station sounding more Urban rather than Rhythmic? I remember Hot would always be playing Flo Rida, Rihanna, and LMFAO. Now it's Chief Keef, 2 Chainz, and Young Jeezy. #1 on Rhythmic is Justin Bieber and Big Sean. A HUGE song on CHR as well and it's nowhere to be found on HOT. As well as Rihanna's new stuff. Good or bad move for HOT?

I see it as a good thing considering the market lacks a true outlet for urban music listened to by 18-34 year olds. The problem these days is the erasure of urban music formatted stations from the terrestrial radio dials across the nation. It is good when an outlet decides to focus on this rather than shift way from it.

Good thing... Plus they giving away Ipads too! Everything is tighter, and way more fluent. Could do without all of the songs having the same artist, but that's hip hop I guess! Just my opinion.

A day after this post, they add Flo Rida, Ne-Yo, and Rihanna's new rhythmic smash. Also Justin Bieber is in. Seems to be adding new recurrent and gold material. Confused?

What we are lacking are urban-leaning rhythmic stations that actually have the fortitude to spin local artists. This is in addition to being well-programmed with wider spanning playlist like the old WPGC, KMEL, or the old KKBT in LA.

They still have to report to the Rhythmic panel, so those adds are expected. They will lean as urban as possible without reporting to the R&B/Hip-Hop (urban) panel.

Love HOT 102.9 but I i've noticed that there more urban then rhythmic!
I wish we have Hot 1029 up here in Toledo there so much better then hot973!

Listening to Hot all my life, they've had their high points and low points. I've always remembered it sounding bland. They tend to program to the market which is cool, but there's a few things that needs work.

1. Imaging is very boring... they have those listener drops and same Pat Garrett imaging that they've had since their launch. It's very basic and I think Power 1075 and The Wiz out of Cinci are much better when it comes to imaging.

2. They're great when it comes to adding new music usually and tend to program to the market, however, the recurrent and gold product is a little plain. Very simple, and I think Power, Wiz, and even Hot 973 out of Toledo have much better variety. I wish Hot 973 streamed so I could evaluate them, but last time I listened, they sounded great.

Radio One launched Hot 102.9 then sold it to Mainline. Power 107.5 and The Wiz are still owned by Radio One. Seems like Mainline doesn't want to spend anything on their radio station. I read complaints about their Louisville stations on the Kentucky board.

Mainline is just a private Equity company run by Arlington Capitol. They will probably be sold at some point to another company.

@lovejamminoldies 101 The Wiz that's my Sh**! I give Hot 97.3 about C+ but, It's funny you say that Hot 102.9 has had the same imaging since the launch. 97.3 is that same way since they launched! 97.3 is also run kinda cheap!

Based on the current log I'm seeing, it does look like they've dropped the gold and only focusing on currents and recurrents.

Either that or they're trying to refocus sister station WROU to pick up the older product, since they will probably go after the audience that has moved on from WDHT.
