cluster f&#ked
the bomb/Hot is in the perfect storm of cluster ownership that cant program their way out of a paper bag (Entravision has had only 1 property in the top 5 (12+) EVER and that property was KBMB BEFORE they owned it), The demise of the on air personality and the homogenization of local programming (the bomb was rich with personality and local flavor), and the rise of the Talk friendly PPM, which in the end will reduce the FM dial to a landscape of canned top 40/rock and country hits voice tracked from other markets, and local/syndicated talk. Blame (in no particular order)
Bill Clinton - and the congress that passed the 96 telecom bill creating this barren unlistenable landscape of cluster radio groups, mega corporate radio, and no local ownership or accountability
Entravision - for not understanding the intricacies of the sacramento market or why they ALWAYS lose here, or how to take a WINNING product like the bomb and kep it winning once they got their grubby little hands on it....
Arbitron - For not reflecting the reality that Americans under 30 increasingly do not have home phones and therefore cannot be reached to participate in surveys. In addition the emergence of the PPM, which is great for tracking drive by listening, but not the best at measuring the preference of the subject being subjected to external sounds not of their choosing....
and last but not least
Paula Nelson.... surviving and thriving in the radio wars with DND and SFM, only to fall by the way side because of delinquent loans, unscrupulous business practices, and a general lack of humility with regards to a property that could have and should have netted her 20 million at the sale, but ended up only garnering a fraction of that amount... hell at least SHE knew how to win....
Entravision is a joke, in a couple years time the station will flip to talk.... its the way of the world...
