Hot 103.5 with More Music Mornings Coming Soon?

This doesn't surprise me. Don't forget that they are owned by the same company that once championed a pair of Dance outlets. Look what happened to them.

As I said earlier, 2010 is looking to be a not-so-good year for Rhythmic, and KBMB's decline just became one of the reasons.

Hmmm. More Music Mornings. It's like saying "You win! We don't have a budget for a morning show"

Who does? You wanna spend money on a high-priced morning show when PPM numbers are more favorable to middays and afternoons. Heavyweight high-priced morning shows are going to be history. The ones that have heritage will stay if they're affordable and making budget. If not, they'll go the way of San Diego talent. And when contracts are renewed, they'll either take paycuts or be bought out. This ain't 1985 anymore.

Gee it isn't 1985? ;)

On that note, most of our morning shows are hanging on here in LA. But, it is the largest revenue market in the nation.

I remember telling a colleague back in 1996 shortly after the pass of the Telcom bill that there would be 2-3 owners with little radio malls that would have 8 stations on hard-drive each, surrounding a big sales pit. It took a few years and in some cases that's almost what you have in some clusters.

I'm just glad there are so many choices out there for mass media these days.

Just checked out the website. Nikia-gone (no suprise), Pattie Moreno, new weekday midday on-air personality (yikes!!!), Tommie Goss- still there (shocked, but where else is he going to go?) Short-E and DJ Mofo still there (no suprise-they weren't going to leave their dear friend Pattie), Tosh apparently the only other mixer there, JayMarzz and Chanel #5 still around, 80 West Show logo still on website (but is Famous only hosting it now?). Good luck Hot 103.5 in the ratings. Oh, what would their new callsign be? It can't be KBMB no more because they're not the Bomb anymore since KBMB stands for K-BoMB. I'm guessing KHOT 103.5.

They're keeping the call letters. They've just changed the logo, imaging and freshened up the music to emphasize tempo-driven pop.

Hot 103.5 is still a Rhythmic CHR station. The thing I can't stand, is the horrible 103% pitch of the music. The pitch increase makes the station sound very abrasive and irritating.

To me the biggest issue with the sound of the station is the audio processing. That station sounds like complete mud! They're the smallest signal out of the 3 so, that'll definately need to be addressed if they're going to compete.

In November 12, 1990, Great American Broadcasting changed the format on the 96.9 frequency from Rhythmic CHR "Hot 97" to Classic Rock "96.9 the Eagle". A few days later, the call letters were changed from KROY to KSEG.

"The Eagle" did not buy "97-KROY". The owner of the station flipped the format and changed the call letters.

KROY had three lives in Sacramento:

1. 1937 to November 1982 on 1240 AM (first four years at 1210 AM)
2. 1976 to July 1984 on 96.9 FM ( it was KROI from 76-79 and KROY-FM from 79-84)
3 September 1985- November 1990 on 96.9 (after being KSAC for a little over a year).

96.9 has been the "Eagle" for 19 years. It's almost as long as the original 1240 KROY's Top 40 period (1960-1981).

*I can't remember the time frame, but wasn't there a brief period where they called the format adult rock?

Which brings to mind a slogan (that I thought was great!) which I BELIEVE was the Point/Zone's for a while: "Songs you don't know by artists you've never heard of"

Adult Rock was on both KROY AM and FM in January 1981...The format slowly morphed into straight ahead AOR the next year.

IThe Adult Rock switch made me think of Disneyland removing all of the flash and fun and opening a lounge in it's place. The station constantly ran bar promotions with 2 for 1 well drinks. They even had a feature called the K-R-O-"WINOS". Too me, I found the station to be a softer AOR with a lot of Beatles and Doobie Brothers delivered by AOR jocks. They spent some time making fun of their former self. I was only a visitor to Sacramento back then, but I still listened to them after they blew up the Top-40 format on the AM. I was a 17 year-old, living in the Bay Area at the time and liked both AOR and Top 40 at the time. I was certainly younger than their new target demo.

I always thought adding the word "adult" to rock just didn't work. I love the AAA format (if it's not "soft" rock...another bad mixing of words) but if you want to rock, "adult" just...for lack of a better analogy...takes the fun out of it.

Like going to a Van Halen concert, and instead of wearing jeans, T shirt and swilling beer and partying, you wear a 3-piece suit and sit quietly sipping wine spritzers, and politely applaud at the end of the show

"Soft Rock" is the ultimate in radio idiocy. Soft rock? Really? What are we referring to? Talc?

haha, true dat! "soft rock" is kind of like castrating Ron Jeremy

That is a hllarious scenario!
