Hot 106.7 Is coming

They already failed once as a top 40 station, can San antonio support 3 top 40 stations? Kind of a waste. They should try alternative or a true r&b like Magic in Houston.

In San Antonio? I know back in the day S.A had a nice R&B station, along with a nice smooth Jazz station on 106.7 (man that was a good station, could pick it up on certain days from Central Texas). Back in the 90s San Antonion had a sizable African American population on the east, southeast side of San Antonio, is it still the same today?

IMO, KTKX should flip to urban style hip-hop like The Box in Houston, it can be San Antonio's *real* hip-hop channel" when KBBT is just top 40 with a few extra hip hop songs mixed in.

Sounds like Hot 106.7 will be a Rhythmic... I don't know too many Cox CHR's that are true CHR anyway. I love Cox CHR stations though... I saw this on Radio Insight earlier... was contemplating posting it :p

I wonder if they are making the move because Border is selling all of it's stations, starting with KTFM 94.1, along with the low powered FMs they own?

Well, it does look like they're going to try to use the same approach that they used at WPOI/Tampa, using a Rhythmic/Dance-Pop leaning direction but stay within the Top 40/CHR realm. Could work.

Of the recent formats 106.7 has had, CHR/Top-40 was the most successful. It's interesting to me that it's going to use the same positioner KTFM used 20 years ago. I doubt many remember that, though.

This will likely pose a larger problem for 98.5 The Beat. 94.1 KTFM and Mix 96.1 are well established stations that listeners know if they want to hear Today's Hits or Dance Hits, it will be found on either station. The management team at The Beat should have adjusted and changed their tag lines many moons ago but now it has allowed another competitor to enter the market....Props to Cox!!

Now, let's see how long it takes Hot 106.7 to surpass The Beat in the PPM's.

More successful than KMMX, or Smooth Jazz KCJZ? Anyone over the age of 25 remember's Hot 102.7 KTFM.

I said RECENT formats. I was thinking within the last 5-10 years. However, if you want to go back 20+ years, I don't remember KMMX "K-Mix" as being overly successful, especially since its owners filed bankruptcy and lost the station. In the Winter '91 book, it was the second-lowest rated full-power FM in the market. I suppose you might be able to say it had some early success since it essentially forced KSMG out of the AC format and into oldies in '88, but that's stretching it.

KCJZ had some early success but flamed out way before most other smooth jazz outlets. Its last book as smooth jazz was in the mid 2-share range, and it was there for at least a year. It also had a good first book as "Jammin' Oldies" but quickly leveled off to the lower numbers it was previously getting.

The CHR format of "Z-106.7" never exactly set the world on fire, but it did manage to beat Mix a few times. It was more of a yo-yo than the previous formats on 106.7 as it was up and down several times during the three years or so it was on-the-air.

Just thought of something, Cox could have just registered the "Hot 106.7" domains to trick people like us on this board who are trying to guess the new format.

Yup, they could just be using it as a stunt to bring back KKYX-AM to the FM dial!

And putting top 40 on 104.9, whenever it is they get that turned on?

Do you think Valencia will be on 106?? I know she isn't on 98.5 anymore. Just a thought. Also, will this mean even more classic rock on Kiss now??

From Radioinsight- More decoys have been added to Hot 106.7. Here ya go- 1067TheEagle.com, Mix1067.com, NewCountry1067.com, and Rock1067SanAntonio.com. There’s also the trio of 1067ChuckFM.com, 1067ChuckFM.net, and 1067ChuckFMSanAntonio.com.

Just glad to see something will soon be happening with 106.7.

There's little chance of KKYX returning to the FM dial, especially on a full-market signal. Classic country tends to be a tough sell to advertisers because the audience is largely 55+. If KKYX were to return to FM, it would sound considerably different than it does right now.

Yes, it's possible the Hot 106.7 web domains are a smokescreen. However, I'd think given the current national CHR surge that it's more likely than not the planned format. Of course, it is kind of strange that Cox is planning to blow up X-106.7 when it's helped knock KZEP below KISS for several months now.

I won't be the Eagle unless Cox flips KONO, It won't be Mix unless Mix 96.1 flips (not likely) or Clear Channel swaps 92.5 for 106.7 (not happening). New Country (sounds like a stunt to bring back KKYX to FM, possible) because they won't do anything to Y-100 which plays a great deal of New Country, Rock1067SanAntonio (are they flipping KISS to Classic Rock, oh wait, it is almost Classic Rock!)

As for Chuck FM, it would make since for Cox to compete against soon to be sold Border Media's Jack-FM, or is Border sending the Austin's Greatest Hits team to San Antonio for 102.7? hmmm.

I still say KKYX-FM, Chuck-FM, or a swap of KISS/KTKX with the Rock1067, and Classic Rock 99.5 The Eagle by means of starting the Eagle off at 106.7 and later moving the frequency down to 99.5

I really think it is going to be KKYX, heck Austin has 3 Country stations, so does Houston in which the Classic Country station down there is also run by Cox. A lot of times, these domains have nothing to do with the stations new format.

KAJA 9.0, KCYY with a 6.4, KJXK with a 5.3. I still place my wager on KKYX-FM which AM is at 0.5
KKYX-FM at 106.7 would probably bill a 3.1 which is a whole lot better than 1.7 that is assuming that KAJA listeners like Country classics.

Lets say Cox flips 106.7 to Chuck FM a Variety Hits station like Jack. Chuck would probably bill a 2.5 at the most.
