Hot 106 signal update

Citadel should invest in getting the station a better signal in the Providence area. The signal is worst within 1 mile of the WWLI tower on Neutaconkanut Hill. Ironically the Lite Rock 105 signal is interfering with another Citadel station's signal in the same market. I know about the broadcast power restrictions on the 106.3 but come on, a good part of the station's audience is in the inner city, and in the western part of Providence, they are losing out big time. A car radio is the only way to get it decent but not clear, forget a home radio unless it's a really expensive one with a very sensitive tuner. Even on a good car radio, the station does not scan in that area. Move the tower to Neut. Hill and reduce the power, or target the northern part of the state and the cities of Woonsocket, Central Falls, Pawtucket, and Attleboro, MA where the station can be heard best because of the tower location on Tower Hill Road in Cumberland.

option #1 is not doable due to I.F. spacing with WBRU.

You've got IF spacing issues with WBRU, and 106.3 is short-spaced to WBMW's new 12kw CP. You'd also have COL coverage issues... you wouldn't be able to cover Woonsocket from Johnston. A WWKX move or power increase simply can't be done. If it could, it would have been done a long time ago.

Citadel should upgrade it to 2.450 kW at 158.0 meters

Equivalent to 6kw at 100.0 meters

or

B1 class

9.900 kW at 158.0 meters

Again... can not be done. There are so many more factors that go into signal strength and quality than raw power. I repeat, if the signal could have been upgraded, it would have been done a long time ago.

This post was read 106 times when I logged on. :) Ok, then Hot 106 should target Woonsocket, northern RI, and nearby MA area who can actually get the station clearly on any radio. The eastern part of Providence area can get it clearly, the western part and nearby Johnston cannot.

Actually it could've been done prior to WBMW's CP to a B1. There was a CP for WWKX to go to 2.2kW DA from the top of the hill. (The directional null was against Nashua, NH).

J117, they could not go to a B1, due to the 106.3 in Northampton, MA and Nashua, NH would prevent that allocation.

Their best option would be to aquire the 104.7 translator from KLove and move it to Neutakonakut and simulcast it there.

Also found a map error in WBMW B1 application Figure 6.

They made WWKX a 2.450 kW?

In the application WWKX 60 dBu contour reaches all the way to Barrington and Warwick.

Now compare the 106.3 with the fcc map and the 60 dBu contour does not reach Barrington/Warwick
http://maps.google.com/?q=http://ww...req=106.3&contour=60&city=WOONSOCKET&state=RI

but compare their proposed 57 dBu contour with the fcc map and its exact coverage?

51 dbu contour reaches far out to Boston/New Bedford.
My point is that hot 106.3 signal is 6KW A Class in that map instead of grandfather 3KW A Class.

j117. In order for WBMW to show the allocation change under 73.215 to WWKX, it must be done representing WWKX as a A6, even though they are licensed as a A3, as the requirements of the rule are that they are protected represented to the full power of their station class (which is a class A for WWKX). (See 73.215 (4))

There was no error on the application map. The FCC has also granted the construction permit for WBMW, so it passed their engineering division too.
