I don't get it. I thought they had a pretty good local show already. I guess Citadel figures that they need a big name show to compete with Kiss and Tom Joyner.

local shows, sadly, seem to be becoming a thing of the past (Rick and Bubba don't count)
______________

Why is that, do you think? Is it a cost savings issue, or do the corporate owners really think people prefer these things? And do people really like them? Personally, I don't. I prefer to hear music and a couple of DJs talking about what's happening in my local community, not some place half way across the country.

At the station I work for, the morning guy has been on for years and the community would be in an uproar if he disappeared in favor of some robo-jock show produced halfway across the country.

Yet, after he signs off, the station goes to a satellite format for most of the day, so the time is coming...

Citadel Birmingham's GM assumes that Steve Harvey will work here. Syndication in Birmingham has always been very tricky and Tom Joyner only wins because his Alabama ties and frequent visits to the state. Other urban syndicated shows were utter failures (Doug Banks anyone), and Harvey will most likely follow suit with that trend. If this experiment fails then this is pretty much a wrap for Hot's current format because the #'s don't lie. The recent trend reveals that it's down big time with the #'s in the upper 2's.
______________
