Alright Captain ..

I figured this post would get your attention. I don't know what your problem is with WJFX I worked there a couple years ago and now I work in a much bigger market.
To your surprise I still am very loyal to that station and I getting sick of your posts constantly berating them. Do you even work in radio? probably not.
When I was hired on, the station was still old school and in tenth place. Our staff bonded together real quick being that we were all in our early to mid 20's. We had a blast together respresenting the station and proving to everyone that we were a family whether we were black or white. Listeners saw this group of "kids" that were fun on and off air and that we were seen as the underdog. That's when we steadily climbed up the ratings without anyone even considering us a threat. Those were probably some of the best times I had in radio.
We didn't have anything in the way of promotions or marketing but we made do with what we had and we made it sound like it was the best thing to win. We made HOT sound like the place to party, like where all the cool kids hung out. Wherever we were is where everyone wanted to be. People falling all over themselves to put bumberstickers on their car to "fit in".
Do you have any clue what kind of accomplishment that was? To take a station from the bottom all the way to the top? I am still friends with Randy Alomar and Weasel...they are some of the coolest guys to work with and to have as friends. Unfortunately the staff they have now doesn't know what that station went through to get to number 1.
That is when Z102 was around and trying knock us off..........They didn't come close. I'm sorry it didn't last longer for me but hell that's radio and I'm in a much better place.
Hot had the best listeners and I truly miss the connection I had with them. Now that I'm in a big market, it just isn't the same. The listners don't care about a connection, only what you can give them.
If you have questions about WJFX just ask me instead of saying all these horrible things about the station. I'll tell you want you want to know.

PS:they have never cheated on a contest....never have and never will.

Lisa,

By your own admission you're not in Fort Wayne anymore. I am. Since you can't hear the station and I can, take my word for it when I say that it sounds like crap. Musically, they sound just like their competition (same format, what could you expect) but it's everything else. The liners are TOO produced and busy. It makes me want to turn the radio off everytime I hear one of these things. The commercials sound like they were produced by some kid who didn't finish broadcast school. And the jocks... Weasel and Randy sound DECENT but certainly not as good as they once did (especially Randy, he pukes like it's his job... I can't stand to listen to him). Weasel just doesn't sound like he fits. He tries to be "with it" but he comes off as a poser (same as Randy).

As for the rest of the jocks, they're just as bad. No energy, they don't even sound like they're having fun. Maybe it's because they're too busy fighting and bitching amongst themselves to worry about how they sound.

Their contest is LAME and one of the most poorly executed I've ever heard. Tell me, do you even know your own license plate number number? I'm betting not... I know I couldn't recall it if I could. Who the hell is going to memorize their license plate number just so they MIGHT win a few dollars? By the way, if you go look at their website they've given away less than $1,000 during the entire contest (and only two people have won more than $50). Yet, they talk about all this money they're giving away... where is it and who's winning it? Certainly doesn't seem like anyone is to me.

Plain and simple: They're getting their ass kicked. Wild's jocks sound like they're having fun, the music is tight, the liners and production sound great and their contest is making Hot look cheap. You tell me: Who's winning this battle? It ain't hot.

And me being in radio or not in radio is irrelevant. I know good radio stations when I hear them and I also know bad radio stations when I hear them. Hot falls under the latter.

I'm sorry if this comes off as mean but it's just my opinion. I admire your dedication to your former station, most radio folk don't care once they've left. But, Lisa, I'm sorry to say that your former station sounds horriable and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Captain,
From what I hear you work for Wild. I have never even heard of your station but I am willing to bet Wild is taking over where Z102 failed to go. Of course you are going to toot your own horn and say how wonderful your station is ..that's fine but at least come clean and say you work there. Don't pretend you are a loyal listener of theirs. That company screws over their employees and has been for a long time, so don't be defending that station too much because while you may have a job this week, you could be canned the next. Just an FYI!!!
You are right..I have no way of hearing what they sound like anymore and they may or may not suck. But don't be saying things about your competition that you don't know for a fact. Many of Z's jocks came to HOT because they were screwed over big time......remember what you say about your competitor..they could be your next employer!!
Happy posting

Your girl,

Lisa

From what I can tell, and what I hear, JFX is the same way. They go through PDs like you and I go through underwear. They are ALWAYS looking for a new PD. ALWAYS! Why isn't Weasel PD? Probably because he doesn't want to be in the position of possibly getting fired quickly. Am I saying he couldn't program? No. I have ZERO knowledge of his programming ability, but he's been there awhile... Why isn't he programming? Or Randy? Seems like one of the partners really runs the place, and they just replace PDs until one of them becomes a yes-man...

Unfortunately, this is where radio has gone. And the panzies in the industry are the ones who will end up keeping their jobs because they have no backbone. And the true leaders end up in the shitter...

Please note: I don't work in Ft. Wayne. Never have. Probably never will. I have no care or bias in the world toward or against any station(s) in the market. I'm just basing my thoughts on what I've heard, and the fact that AllAccess always has job postings for JFX PD gig...

Thanks for listening/reading.
