Hot 93.3

What’s up with Hot 94.3? Anybody noticed them mixing in the real old stuff with the current stuff they’re playing? They’re adding a lot of 90’s and early 2000’s hits on here.

I guess they have decided to do another round of re-tooling instead of taking the flailing format behind the barn.

Obviously the goal is to differentiate from KISS. This is something Z-100 in NYC did a few months back. It helped broaden their audience a bit. Maybe two older gold an hour. There's a hole between CHR and Hot AC that can be accessed if you're careful.

I'm sure that's this is irrelevant, but I noticed that their backsplash on their website went back to Drake and Cardi B., from Justin Bieber and Ed Sheeran. Last time I seen the Drake and Cardi B. is when they were attempting a rhythmic leaning top 40.

Not the point here, but Hot has had it's name since what.. 2014? And they still go by "The New Hot 93.3"? Does it REALLY make a difference in the long run? No. But I find it amusing that they're 8 years "new" at this point!

We have the same discussion in Houston with KKBQ. It’s had the same Country format for 30 years yet still calls itself “The New 93Q”. It’s all promotional hyperbole.

I actually think that they’re discovering that listeners like the older tunes, as well. Kiss has a liner that says they’re doing some remodeling and adding in some older stuff, as well.

And a side note, even though Hot is at the bottom of the PPM’s, I find myself listening to them more than Kiss, especially since Hot went HD. I think Hot’s imaging is a LOT better than the imaging on Kiss. I especially like some of the imaging with positive messages. I heard one the other day that said, “Strong people stand up for themselves. The strongest people stand up for others. - The New Hot 93-3”.

They need to go Classic Hip Hop...
That may work, but a better format may be Throwback Jamz. Something similar to what SiriusXM Fly does. 90’s R & B and Hip Hop.

Do anybody out there expect a format change for this station very soon? We need to bring back an active rock format like we did when the Eagle was here.
no

speaking of, which station in the bottom of the ratings is now in danger of a format flip now that 97.1 did it's flip.

I’m not sure if anyone else watches the CHR charts, but they’ve been brutally stagnant for the past couple of months. CHR’s that don’t have strong personalities to prop them up are struggling badly with the lack of a breakout star or big hits from established artists, and what’s out there isn’t really moving up the charts. “I Ain’t Worried” by OneRepublic has been at #7 for almost 2 months. The stations are having to get creative.

KLIF is still very much a CHR - looks like they’re just sprinkling in a few well testing golds. I streamed them for a while the other night and it’s really a good CHR - just in the shadows of KISS.

They've definitely tweaked their format -- they're playing their biggest songs less often, have added more older music, and now seem to be reaching back over 30 years (a recent sample hour includes "Gonna Make You Sweat", which was a hit for C&C Music Factory back in 1990. Are there any other major market top 40 stations that reach that far back?

Then why are they competing with both KISS and 102.9 NOW?
Who says that they’re competing? Maybe billing is decent and they’re content doing their own thing. It’s possible to have poor ratings and still bill decently. If billing is acceptable to Cumulus, it’s not likely that they’re going to flip the station.
