Was just cruising around with the windows down, listening to some old Hot 93.3 airchecks. The 90’s and 2000’s hit a lot better on a nice day than the ultra conservative talk. Just saying!
I wonder if anyone heard and tuned into 93.3 as a result, only to be met with WBAP..Was just cruising around with the windows down, listening to some old Hot 93.3 airchecks. The 90’s and 2000’s hit a lot better on a nice day than the ultra conservative talk. Just saying!
There’s actually a long thread in the Dallas subreddit about radio in DFW. It’s interesting to hear how non-radio people think of radio.I wonder if anyone heard and tuned into 93.3 as a result, only to be met with WBAP..
I almost wonder how certain day parts such as talk-intensive morning shows are doing now compared to 10-20 years ago. This comment made me laugh a bit, but I get it:Yeah, I skimmed it -- not very encouraging for the radio business, is it? But also not surprising. I think that most of us know that radio has turned into an afterthought for most listeners.
I actually feel the same way. Lately here, I’ve been listening to Channel Q on 103.7 HD2. Not sure why CHR/Pop didn’t go dance leaning…because there are a lot of good bangers right now!Too bad the business didn’t think ahead and come up with some ingenuity in order to save it. I still listen to some it, but in the Dallas market it’s become really lean and unbearable. I go to Chicago and the radio market is still alive and well. Dallas market they’ve just given up!!

I post on that subreddit fairly often. In fact, I posted on this very thread. This thread was actually pretty active for r/Dallas standards. The second most upvoted comment is a recommendation to listen to KXT and 88.1. So it’s not totally a dismissal of the entire radio landscape here in DFW.Yeah, I skimmed it -- not very encouraging for the radio business, is it? But also not surprising. Hah! I think you’ve said you weren’t around when the Edge was still around on plain old 102.1. But I remember there was a lot of grumbling about the Edge sounding like 106.1 version 3 on Reddit. (and 102.9 was 106.1 version 2) When 103.7 switched in 2017 I knew it would be the same thing as the Edge. I love how when 103.7 switched the top comment is literally-“Meh, I’ll stick with 91.7.”Was listening to Alt 103.7 and I wish they would embrace Alternative Rock if they’re going to keep with that format. I’d be happy with Alternative too. However, I don’t want to hear the same pop music that Adult Contemporary stations are playing.
That’s sad. But they have every right to feel that way. Radio may not be in the music distribution business. But they are in the entertainment. The same, in some cases, useless cutting and reduction of jobs and quality did this. Local tv is going through this nowThere’s actually a long thread in the Dallas subreddit about radio in DFW. Exactly. The Spot plays the same 80s music all the time. They need to mesh it up with one hit wonders, and others. They play Journey, Eagles and the like over and over. You shouldn't be able to hear Hotel California every time you hit 98.7. I think it’s programmers not really 80s minded forming their playlists.I actually feel the same way. We all know that as songs age, they sometimes fit formats that they wouldn’t have when they were first released. Looking at Alt’s playlist, I’d don’t want to hear the following:
Goo Goo Dolls - Slide
Lenny Kravitz - Fly Away
Verve - Bitter Sweet Symphony
Goo Goo Dolls - Iris
I feel like I’m hearing more and more stuff like this and it’s just making me tune out. Most of the stations in DFW just seem blah to me lately and I’m finding myself flipping to SiriusXM, streaming from other markets (been streaming KZ 102.3 from Peoria, IL lately) or listening to whatever I want on Apple Music.
Ahhh. KZ 102.3 Peoria. I remember when they were KZ93 in late 80s while going to ISU. Great station. If you like 90's and early 00's hits, you have a few terrestrial streaming options for it, too. You mentioned one in KZ 102.3 in Peoria. One of my favorites is former Dallas call letters KODZ, which are now in Eugene, OR. Eugene picked up those calls almost immediately after Dallas let them go. It and sister KIFS 107.5 in Medford recently adopted a 90's/00's classic hits approach. Personally, I find KODZ 99.1 more listenable than KIFS, even though they're the same company.
Radio has always been an afterthought for most people. Twenty years ago, I worked for a CHR that had a PD who would calculate how many times during an hour the station name was mentioned. He'd talk to you if he heard the station name mentioned fewer than 100 times. That probably isn't as important today in PPM markets as it was then when everyone used the diary, but it hammered home what a passive medium radio truly is.
Me too! I lived within listening distance of KZ-93 and then KZ 94.3 when Kelly Communications resurrected the format. Midwest Communications resurrected the brand on 102.3 after they purchased the station from Alpha. Alpha was running the station as G 102.3. Midwest switched it to KZ 102.3 as “Retro Hits”, but they’ve since dropped the rock based hits and have transitioned to the “#1 For Throwbacks!” slogan, similar to what G 102.3 was doing.Ahhh. KZ 102.3 Peoria. I remember when they were KZ93 in late 80s while going to ISU. Great station.

Why do they need talk on the HD1 side? Put the classic rock or classic hits on the frontside. Talk doesnt need to be in stereo. Keep that on AM where it belongs.
I’m sorry Cool is just the same classic crap! Was just cruising around with the windows down, listening to some old Hot 93.3 airchecks. The 90’s and 2000’s hit a lot better on a nice day than the ultra conservative talk. Just saying!
