I haven't been listening to HOT 93.7 as much as I used to. Lately I've been listening primarily to 105.9 The River and 102.9 The Whale, but today I listened to HOT 93.7 for a good hour and a half. I heard a new liner on the station "HOT 93.7 - Now with More Throwback Joints Than Ever Before." - Is this them trying to capture the audience that likes Classic Hip-Hop without a full-blown format flip to Classic Hip-Hop like stations in Philly, Atlanta, and elsewhere have done?
P.S. This Monday at 5PM will be 14 years since what was then Infinity Broadcasting blew-up Dancin' Oldies Z-93.7 and flipped it to Hip-Hop HOT 93.7 - Nancy Barrow is still part of the morning show. In fact she's been part of the morning show on WZMX since sometime in the 1990s when she was Sebastian's sidekick. Jenny Boom-Boom is still there though when she started she was doing nights, then switched to Middays, and now is doing Afternoons 2PM-6PM. JD Houston in the morning was replaced by new station PD DJ Buck Collins. Although not on since after the flip Kidd Fresh is still doing nights 6PM-10PM. DJ Bigg Mann who now does Middays 10AM-2PM has been on the station since after the flip. I think he was just a Mixer at first.
I've met Nancy Barrow, JD Houston, Bigg Mann, and Jenny Boom-Boom. I met JD and Nancy when I sat it on the morning show in 2002. (Though I was never on the mic). I met Bigg Mann when I was leaving the station that morning. And I met Jenny when she was doing a station remote at a cell phone store that was located inside the now defunct Southington Shaw's Supermarket.
