Alright guys, looks like some annoucements have been made this morning. Mark Adams to the PD chair, and Mo Bounce to Nights/MD. I thought from the beginning that Mo Bounce was the perfect jock for that gig... (as seen in previous posts), so a big congrats to him!

HOT just turned up the heat...

I've been listening to HOT (on and off) and would someone please tell me the big difference between them and KRBE. The biggest difference I hear is that some of the songs HOT plays during the day, KRBE only plays at night or during their live broadcast. I can't compare the jocks until HOT sets their line-up. Thanks.

KRBE is Cumulus. To CHR programmers, enough said. The music is strictly controlled by Jan Jeffries in his Atlanta office, and not programmed to best suit the local market (which Hot is already proving to do - locally program for HOUSTON). KRBE, as all Cumulus CHR's - often times oversteps the "Hot AC" boundary, and have some weird Jan fueled obsession with Rob Thomas.

So, the major difference? KRBE plays flops. alot. I mean absolutely disrespect to the staff at KRBE, they're all great people... they can't control what Jan mandates.

Yeah, local programming for Houston's kids. Another POS rap channel...no one wants to advertise on a station that plays music for the kiddies, specially rap/hippity hoppity stations. On 93.3 all you seem to hear is commercials for night clubs and bail bondsmen...great a bunch of club going criminals listen to 93.3.

KRBE plays "hits", that adults want to hear. Which is putting them in a position to sale more advertising. To make money, you MUST sale advertising. Having big 12+ numbers is nice if you are wanting to be known for hvaing the biggest [EDIT] on the block. BUt, at the end of the day, no ONE CARES how big your [EDIT] is. No business wants EVERYONE in their business, they want people who have money to spend, and that is not kids...it's adult females. Businesses want to advertise on stations thaht have the attention of adult females. KRBE is positioning themselve to get on the track, if they aren't already

"No disrespect"... important word! oops!

Thanks for the info Ilistentotheradio. My question back to you is if you feel that KRBE is not locally programmed for Houston, then how are they doing so well in the ratings? If the music is being controlled out of Atlanta, again, how is KRBE doing so well in the ratings? My buddy at KRBE says the station is on fire revenue-wise. Doesn't good programming mean good ratings mean good revenue? You sound a little bitter to me. Thanks for your input though.

I'm not really bitter. When there's not choice (which, there hasn't been) and it's the only thing available, that's where it goes. All talent and imaging sounds amazing, but when I run across Sheryl Crow or Rob Thomas' "Little Wonders"... I'm flipping.

Basically, to put it into simpler terms... KRBE is skewing Adult CHR, Hot is CHR. (music wise). I think everyone would admit, when KRBE was Susquehanna, the logs were MUCH better.

Let's re-visit your theories on KRBE's HUGE revenue and ratings success in the next 6 months to a year. I think this argument might spit back at you by then.

Bottom line...there's a new top 40 in town...giving another CHOICE to the core demo. Heritage of KRBE is a plus, but the bottom line is people and the way people listen to the radio has changed. And HOT isn't re-inventing the "radio wheel"...they are just evolving WITH the people and THEIR needs. Bottom line. No argument. Let's re-visit this at a later date. I guarantee the tone will be different from the KRBE "nut-swingers".

Radio "wars" are fun :) Adds some liveliness.

Hot 95-7 is the Hottest thing since the invention of the CHR 93Q & Power 104!

12 plus not so much females 12 plus very much so. The station that rakes in the most 12 - 24 females. Will get lucky at closing time every time. If you wanted to narrow this even more 18 - 24 females.

I enjoy this radio war. Houston has not seen one in years.

Bumping this thread a bit, but I noticed Dave Morales is doing promos and the morning shift for Hot. Good addition for the station, and a real loss for KPTY.
