Hot 96.9 First Song?

It's pretty much a foregone conclusion that the new format on WTKK when the dust settles will be "Hot 96.9." Anyone want to guess what the first song will be? I've got the song that started it all (all this stunting nonsense, that is): Rihanna's "Diamonds."

I agree with your prediction 100%.

A better question would be, what will their 2nd song be? That will give a better indication as to which direction the format will lean.

now is this the Kanye west version or the first one we heard on wed?

That also will be a big clue IMO.

Watch it be some old school hip hop song.

But the question is.. Do we really need another station playing Rhythmic CHR? Like it or not but hip hop is dead. Look at JAM'N...... They don't play that stuff anymore simply because there is only so much Rick Ross and 2 Chainz one can handle in an hour.

if they do hip hop though they should stick to it,And not do and current hits part like jamn does. What i don't understand is why go after jamn when there other stations go older??

Yes, but why have 3 stations in a market that now play Hip Hop and pop?

Straight hip hop is a great idea, but it just won't bill as well as Hip Hop mixed with hits.

The new 96.9 should be a "pure" urban format.

Today, urban formats have appear far beyond African-Americans. Many young whites (especially males) also listen to urban stations. In fact, the growth of urban formats among white listeners has been a major reason why contemporary rock stations (whose traditional target audience are young men) have done poorly in recent years and why many stations have pulled the plug on rock formats.

If Greater Media indeed does a pure urban contemporary format on 96.9, I think with by Summer, it will be one of Boston's five most popular stations in terms of overall audience, and the most popular station among listeners under the age of 35.

A pure urban station in this market has the potential to be this big.

They should have grabbed the intellectual property of Hot 97 Boston. They had a large following as a pirate. 96.9 is close to 97, much closer than 87.7.

The intellectual property of a former pirate station? I don't think so...

Urban Contemporary stations also feature Black news reports, public affairs programs and gospel shows. None of which appeals to the gangsta fantasies of Caucasian teenage boys. Instead of serving the community, we're going to get a compromised Urban station that perpetuates a stereotypically "Yo MTV Raps" modern day minstral show.

For what it's worth, 360, the Sunday urban programming on 95.5 WBRU/Providence has a big following in the Providence area. As far as I know, it had better ratings than their usual weekday alternative rock programming. An urban format, if done correctly, would perform quite well in Boston.

That intellectual property used to belong to WBOT 97.7. The Facebook page of Hot 97 Boston has over 10000 fans. Maybe Greater Media could just pay their FCC fine in exchange for the intellectual property. Pirate stations have "gone legal" elsewhere.
