Hot 97.7 (87.7) and B87fm

Someone on the BRI list was asking if these two are the same organization.

Hot 97.7 (87.7) got raided and was forced off the air in 2012. There is a new group broadcasting on 87.7 calling themselves B87fm.

Hot 97.7 was Urban/Black Hip-Hop.....and B87 seems to be more Caribbean.

Some people...or a new group?

Who was the financial backer of Hot 97 (87.7)?

Same people. If you go to the old Hot 97 Boston website and click "listen live" you'll hear its the same. As far as the format goes it sounds more mainstream (like Jamn) then it has in the past. I've heard artists like Daft Punk, Justin Timberlake, Ariana Grande, etc on there. They still do play Hip-Hop and Reggae music like they used to but they've also added some Rhythmic CHR hits into the mix as well. I even heard them playing EDM music on a Sunday night a few weeks ago. Not sure if that's a regular thing or not.

Another thing about this reincarnation (I donʼt know about the previous) is that they air bona fide national (agency produced?) ads (Iʼve heard several spots for cell phone service)—not just homegrown, local nightclub/sandwich shop/funeral home ads for Dorchester and Mattapan!

And still airing illegally.

I wonder if they are claiming any of the revenue from these spots for tax purposes?
