I'm a rock person myself. But If I do listen, Power tends to play more hip hop i like: Kanye, Akon, Wiz Khalifa. Hot 97 doesn't really. and idk if they still have it on Power 105.1 but Paternity Test Tuesdays they had on the show it was so much fun to listen 2.

Who is programming Power 105.1 now?

Cadillac Jack is still PD at WWPR (since 2008), he also added OM duties for the entire Clear Channel New York cluster last November. He had been announced to be returning to Boston as OM, but ended up staying in New York as Power's PD and CCNY OM.

It's amazing how neck-and-neck these two stations are, ratings period in and ratings period out. Even if Hot beats Power, it's almost always by a fraction of a ratings point.

IIRC, Hot 97 used to get monster ratings, so CC launched Power, partly in an attempt to protect 106.7 Lite-FM.

DtotheJ...You hit the nail dead on...That's the core reason why Cheap Channel launched Power 105.1. It was to get Hot 97 away from Lite 106.7 at the top of the ratings. It's bad enough that Lite is sweating over the fact that WCBS FM is breathing in 2nd place.

Jackpot-a-rooney! Yep Power 105.1 is a pawn to keep Hot 97 away from the Lite.

Hot usually does have a solid lead over Power 18-34.

I'm not sure I understand the rationale of protecting Lite. Protecting it in the sense of its position in the ratings? Is it that important to be able to state that it's consistently at the top of the ratings?

Well, yes, from a "selling advertising" point-of-view. Granted, higher shares are more important in the 25-54 demographic for LiteFM rather than the age 6+ overall "beauty contest". But anything that splits the pie and protects the cluster (in this case Clear Channel) is worthwhile.
