A hip-hop radio station where the gunplay has drawn as much attention as the playlist could face eviction from its lower Manhattan studios, where a rapper was shot and slightly wounded this week.http://tinyurl.com/ebegr

KISS 98.7 is 1000% better anyway!!Its sad to hear about this though, very sad :(Thanx for the report my friend

Bye, Bye, Shot 97. That station should have know better than to let that mess escalate to those levels. They'll probably wind up located in Brooklyn.

This is a reflection of this music has become. The music preaches violence and they are reapping what they sow. Thanks,Kevin L. Sealy

That's not all hip hop. There are plenty of hip hop artists and rappers like Common, Mos Def, and Q-Tip that don't perpetuate such image.

yeah violence also happens to all formats too, thats how life is

But not nearly as violent as the stuff that happens to all of those people who foster hate, violenceand brutality against women and between children...and then are shocked when it hits them betweenthe eyes on their OWN turf. Maybe the owners will build a steel fortress with razor wire around it inBrooklyn. Kinda like a prison...

You are right, all hip-hop isn't that way, BUT you have to admit if you listen to most of it, all they do is talk smack about how much they have and how many females that they have had relations with.

I Personallay, dont like the things i heard about 97- It seems to just be like all bad stuff, that smack thing Was really silly, and Wrong, Also, Shootings, Are Not Necesaray Things at Professional radio stations, this station, is less than professional, and in my oppinion should be flipped to another format..or something...something has to be done.

Agreed! And it's the anti-thesis of EVERYTHING Dance music stands for.If PD's, GM's, and APD's were wise, they should switch to a Dance / Techno format, or at least a Current Dance Hits format, with mixshows on the weekends.Besides, I for one am starting to really tire of the whole Rap/Hip-Hop thing. When MTV/VH1 dedicate 2 ENTIRE CHANNELS of their digital "suite" to Rap/Hip-Hop/R&B, that's TOO MUCH!! :-(It's time that we should be allowed to once again have a Rock video channel on digital cable!!Or BETTER STILL, we should have a Dance video channel on digital cable & satellite here in the U.S., since this format of video channel hasn't been tried here yet.Canada has BPM:TV, Australia has Club [V] (in that case, they're a spin-off of Channel [V]), and in Germany, they have VIVA.So why couldn't a Dance video channel work here in the U.S. as well? It's be a WELCOME alternative to the Hip-Hop junk that's on MTV Jams, MTV Hits, and VH1 Soul!! :)DeanSB

That's the crux of the reason why I've all but stopped listening to and watching Hip-Hop songs and videos...too much of what you described above.Plus add to that the fact that many of them DO preach violence against women & children, violence against even each other, AND violence against the police as well!! :-(Rap was GOOD back in the late-1980's/early-1990's, and for awhile, the controversy surrounding albums like N.W.A.'s "N*****s4Life" and 2 Live Crew's "As Nasty As They Wanna Be" had me "turned on" to that, and I wanted that music just to see what the controversy was REALLY all about. But anymore, I think that all that stuff has just become TOO MUCH, and I think it's HIGH TIME to let another form of music take over again for awhile...such as Dance / Techno music!! :)Dance Music is POSITIVE music, and dosen't preach hate like much of the Rap/Hip-Hop stuff does!! :)Something to think about there.DeanSB

It's time that Hot 97 and some of the other Hip-Hop stations should REALLY consider flipping to a Dance music or Current Dance Hits format. You know, change it up a little, and give the listeners something POSITIVE to listen to instead. :)DeanSB

The worst music probably not, the worst attitudes may be... none the less... mainstream hip hop has two very successful stations in the ratings... Hot and Power will continue to do their thing until the music tastes of the audience change.

??? It's strange with me here in greater Hartford. This area has "Hot 93.7" (WZMX-FM Hartford owned by CBS) and "Power 104.1" (WPHH-FM Waterbury/Hartford owned by Clear Channel). 93.7 became hip-hop/R&B in March of 2001 while 104.1 became their competition in September of 2003. Although the stations are presets on both my Sony Walkman and home stereo, I won't listen to either one of them. However, I WILL only listen to "Hot 97" while in or near NYC. I refuse to check out "Power 105.1". Maybe it's the loyalty and name recognition? Who knows? I've had them on for maybe 10 years now. Don't get me wrong. I don't like the idea of the violence outside of their building either.

Not to get off topic but thats strange you have Hot 93.7 and Power 104.1 both on presets but you don't listen to them. My question is why don't you listen to either of them? I thought maybe you would put on Hot 93.7 as you like Hot 97 in NYC because their both called "Hot".

I don't have to listen to them myself. Half the cars that go past me in the city are either playing these stations or Reggaeton (Yuk!). I just have them set to fill the presets on my radios. I don't listen to our local country station (WWYZ-FM 92.5 Waterbury/Hartford) or market-leading AC (WRCH-FM 100.5 New Britain/Hartford) either. Those two stations aren't even presets at all. I barely listen to our Hot AC station (WTIC-FM 96.5 of Hartford, similar to WPLJ-FM 95.5). The "Hot" name is NOT why I listen to "Hot 97". It's just out of loyalty, really. Plus, they happen to have the strongest FM signal I've received in or near NYC.If you come to the Hartford metro, here's what I'll listen to with a good antenna:WHYN-FM 93.1 Springfield, MA ("Mix 93.1" HOT AC)WYBC-FM 94.3 New Haven ("94.3-WYBC" ADULT URBAN)WKSS-FM 95.7 Hartford/Meriden ("Kiss 95.7" CHR)WTIC-FM 96.5 Hartford ("96.5-TIC" HOT AC)WILI-FM 98.3 Willimantic ("I-98" CHR)WKCI-FM Hamden/New Haven ("KC-101" CHR)WCCC-FM Hartford ("The Rock-106.9 WCCC" ACTIVE ROCK)
