They were celebrating their ratings advantage over Power 105.1 tonight by popping bottles of Cristal on air and talking alot of smack about Power 105 and its djs. Calling Ed Lover a loser, telling Cherri Martinez to give it up, and I assume a lot more- Thats the only parts I caught. It was on Funk Flexs show...

All this celebrating for a .2 lead? Am I missing something? Did they blow them away in other demo's?

I recently read an interview with their PD John Dimick where he said he did not allow them to be mentioned in the station and they only ever referred to them as Poseour 105, apparantly they're a little more concerned than they let on. Power put up good numbers but I wonder how much of those numbers were Star and co?.
Edited by NotoriousN-I-K on 01/11/06 03:59 PM.

I read a newspaper article posted on another board which gave exact ratings for 12+, mornings, afternoons, 25-54, and 18-34. I won't post the numbers because of the rules but I will post that WQHT was first in ages 18-34 and 1.2 shares ahead of WWPR. WHTZ was third and close behind WWPR.

Now as everybody knows, you can't have a *Real* celebration at Hot 97 without somebody ultimately getting shot! (LOL, I'm kidding of course...)

Now that is a STUPID, RACIST statement and as an African American broadcaster I object to it.........besides it's been at least..........A MONTH since anyone was shot there..lol. Funk Flex should forget about those car shows he does, they could get a lot of NTR money by sponsoring the HOT 97 GUN SHOW!!.....

HOLLA!!!!!!!!!

I have seen those #'s also. A big reason why Hot doesn't have a larger overall & 18-34 lead is Star & BucWild, who have a fairly solid lead over Hot 97 in the Mornings. Star & BucWild are also #2 18-34 (behind Stern). Without getting too much in detail it is interesting to note that Power's lead over Hot in the mornings is the exact same as Hot's lead overall lead over Power in the afternoons.

Also as you mentioned Hot has a 1.2 share lead over Power in their 18-34 target & thats with Star & BucWild leading Hot overall as well as 18-34 in the mornings. Take mornings out of the picture that lead might be closer to 2 shares (though thats just a guess) which explains the celebrations on Hot 97's part.
______________

How will these numbers translate into billing for the second and third quarters?

Strongest billing daypart is the Mornings & Power has the clear edge there, and Stern leaving pretty much gives Star & Bucwild the #1 slot 18-34 (which both Hot & Power target). However overall Hot's 18-34's are stronger (and probably quite as bit stronger in the other dayparts) so more than likely Hot has the clear billing edge. Power does better 25-54, but both stations primarily taregt 18-34, and also Power is only .2 ahead of Hot 97 25-54, which means very little all in all.
______________
