HOT AND BOTHERED

How do you all like the new Hot 97.5 sound? .... Or are you bothered by it?

I took a mini vacation from radio, but today I noticed a lot of pop rock material added in. While driving out in the valley heat with the windows down, I caught Owl City "fireflies" playing first on 103.9 then on Hot 97.5 right afterwards while flipping stations in the hot car. Then it was followed by another pop rock song on Hot 97.5! I felt a little hot and bothered, considering the fact that 103.9 is already fulfilling the adult top 40 sound and Mix 96.9 is dominating the Hot AC sound. Are you enjoying the Neon Trees, Owl City, One Direction, Muse, and the re-addition of Adele and Jordin Sparks to the Hot playlist? What exactly is Hot 97.5's format now? Seems like they're almost considering retrying something they've done before.

I am constantly perplexed by your definition of "pop rock." It seems like an all encompassing term you use for non-dance/r&b/hip-hop artists. There are at LEAST four different genres on that list you gave. And I wish you would respect the plethora of unique sounds we have in music today, rather than lumping them all together.

But if I did that, then I'll have others upset for using too many genre names and not keeping it simple. Guess you can't please everybody.

I would have preferred if KMVA would keep at least a couple of dance songs (besides Zedd) in regular rotation or at LEAST play a little more of them during the wee hours of the morning.

Here's a suggestion: Use the KHFI model from 1989-1992 (played a variety of stuff including dance)

LOL, while out walking last night, I was thinking about all the new hip hop hits that were currently out. What made me think of it was the material I heard within an entire hour mix on 104.7 Kiss FM while walking down Central last night. It was all dirty south hip hop, and those were just the top mainstream hip hop hits. There are certainly more new hip hop (and r&b) hits available. Whether or not a Phoenix rhythmic format could pass with playing them is a different story, but I'm sure The Beat would if they went full service urban with R&B and Hip Hop.

After reading the article, I feel like I have a solution to Power 98.3's problem that sounds logical, although most would consider this "dumb logic" for a variety of reasons. If too much dance and a lack of decent hip hop is challenging Power's current format and slogan decisions, then............... ok, no, I wont say it.

But I think some of you get where I'm going with this. You know what I want to say, lol.
