"hot hits" hot 99.7 coming?

With the flip of 95.7 in houston to this format you think movin will change to hot 99.7?

Something with the name Hot given the history would be a good fit right now. KYLD is struggling to find its identity right now. It is possible to make a killing in San Jose which would lead to success overall in the market, and if someone could come in and make a Rhythmic station that catered to San Jose ala Wild 107/94.9 did in their prime they could make some real noise. San Jose is begging for a rhythmic station right now. Look at the trend. You got KDON coming in from nowhere and making noise.

Rumors circulated about 3 years ago of a new CBS Rhythmic station targeting KYLD but that fizzled out with the arrival of 106.9 and now with 99.7 making lil impact on arbitron, I don't see why CBS wouldnt flip movin to a station that would "take away" the chunk of listenership that KYLD once had in San Jose..Put this into perspective...KYLD is no longer active on the streets promotionally, doesnt have those familiar jocks that san jose once had in Strawberry, Victor Zaragoza, Xavier and The Doghouse with that in mind, if I were at CBS I would take advantage of this and bring back that once prominent name of Hot 97.7 to San Jose and cater to the audience that KYLD turned its back on

I think sfradio might be on to something. If anyone can launch a good CHR/Pop station for the Bay area it'll likely be CBS Radio on the 99.7 FM signal. Hopefully though they won't call it X-100 ;) :D

We don't know yet what type of changes, if any, are in store for 99.7. Perhaps they'll morphe into a Hot Hits station, or perhaps into a Rhythmic Hot A/C similar to what Movin 101.1 St. Louis sounds like, as well as the new sound of KTFM in San Antonio. If you'd like to know what I'm talking about simply go to yes.com and type in WMVN and then KTFM.
Personally I'd love to see a Hot Hits station in Frisco, but a Rhythmic Hot A/C might be a decent option as well

All of you are right on target.

A long time ago on this board, I mentioned how KDON (out of Salinas/Monterey) regularly pulls a 1 (plus or minus) in the San Jose book. And their signal really only gets to parts of San Ho.

How can these radio geniuses not see that? If you're CBS, don't you hop in your car, take a drive down to Monterey and hire away as many KDON folks as you can and then clone it with the 99.7 signal?

We're mainly talking about a CHR/Pop of some sorts.
Perhaps another Rhythmic may be needed in the South Bay. The main reason K-Don gets a 1 share in the San hoe market is b/c Wild 94.9's signal doesnt really cover the entire San Jose market. In fact, MOST of the FM signals from San Francisco don't reach San Jose properly, and yet the San Jose area is 1/3 of the bay area population (and book). That's why when you look at the ratings performance for the 4th biggest radio market most stations have a hard time getting more then a 2.5 share.

I give it a yes for Hot 99.7 also. It would do well in San Fran which doesn't have a true CHR. I don't live in San Fran but what station does everyone listen to that wants to hear their hits? Also I see KSFM comes in the ratings a little.

Some of you keep saying we need a "true CHR." Granted, I'm an old fogey, so maybe I'm missing something, but Wild 94.9 seems to share most of their play list with KIIS-FM (LA). I thought KIIS was one of the top CHR stations in the country. Sure, both stations lean urban, but I think that would be true in most large American cities with diverse populations.

Would a 99.7 CHR really "do well," or would it just get a tiny portion of the audience already divided between KMEL, Wild, Alice, Live 105, and Star?

Only way would be to try. And Alice and Live could get tweaked somewhat.
