Hot Rockin and Flame Throwin

So I'm up in Johns Creek hunting for a house and decided to take an M&M's break and standing in front of the QT door is an older gentlemen wearing one of the original Malrite Z100 Lettermen jackets from 84. My curiosity was piqued when he turned around and on the front was the name Jack. Now the only Jack I heard of from the original Z was Jack Da Wack. Could I have held the door for one of NYC flame throwers?

Now you've gotten me started. If Jack was at the QT in Johns Creek, he must be visiting family for the holidays because he's still in radio. He does afternoon drive at KKBQ in Houston using the name Cactus Jack.

And little known, Z100 was actually Jack Da Wack's second tour of duty in New York. In 1980, he did nights on WPIX-FM's short-lived top-40 format. I thought he was awful but actually thought he was pretty good on Z100, which he joined at the start in 1983. He didn't have the big voice I prefer for evenings on CHR, but he still did well. When Steve Kingston became Z100 PD, Kingston hired Kid Kelly, IMHO a much better choice for evenings, and moved Jack Da Wack to late evenings.

Why didn't you just ask him if he wanted some M&M's?

Ha! that wasn't Jack it was me. You read the name on the jacket wrong. Which QT? 141 and Johns Creek Pkwy or the on on McGinnes ferry and PTRE Ind? I was in both over the weekend.

Georgia 141 / Johns Creek Parkway / Peachtree Parkway. The gentleman was just done smoking a cigarette and you couldn't miss the Z100 jacket. If it is you, can you give us some history of the jacket?

I didn't start at Z100 'til 1988, so it's not as old as you thoght it was. Can't remember what year we got those. I'm guessing '89 or '90. The thing is like brand new. Hardly worn it. The name you saw on it is "JoJo", not Jack.
